As for side streets, depending on the amount of snow that is not always an option.

Then you have the seniors that don't have the mobility to dig thier vehicles out so they can be moved.
If you don't have the mobility to get your car out of its parking spot when it snows (or any of the other reasons you have listed), you could always take 5 minutes and realize that you live on a snow route and a huge snow fall is projected and move your car off the route before it snows.

That's the thing here. You live on a Snow Route. If you don't understand what that means by now, that means you have multiple tickets to show for it. You would have to have brain damage not to have made the connection.

People need to be responsible for making sure their car isn't on the street during this time. If they think that have all these excuses like you have listed and it exempts them from getting a ticket, then why would they ever put the minimal amount of effort into making sure their car isn't in that situation.

Heavy snowfall warnings were around for pretty much 48 hours before hand, and the long term forecast indicated there would be snow early in the week. There is no situation, baring you being dead or in a coma, that gives you a reason not to have your car moved.

If you are out of the country for 2 weeks before hand, park somewhere else. It's winter, and it snows during this time of the year, it isn't rocket sceince. Its not like the city put up the snow route signs last week. If you don't have any alternate parking, because you turned your parking pad into a flower bed or filled your garage with used dildos to sell on Ebay, then find another place to park.

Is Calgary really doing the snow route parking ban substantially different than other cities in Canada?

Why is this such an issue for people? Or is it just another thing the media can run with to fill some air time (because I REALLY needed to see a dancing dog on CTV news yesterday evening)?

City doesn't plow your street...the nerve of those people, not providing an essential service.
City ticketing people who don't move their car...the nerve of those people, where am I supposed to park my car.

People always need something to complain about, don't they?

That's a BS excuse as well. One pass by garbage trucks or any traffice and you can go down the alley. This time right after the snow it was tough/impossible to get down the alleys but after a couple days of use and it is fine. And I have never seen tickets on my street for this either....

The snow route is so frustrating, I live on one and most times someone parks in front of my house and then it doesn't get plowed properly even though I moved my vehicle around the corner.

And as for the people that go on holidays and then it snows, if you live on a snow route, make a plan to have someone move your vehicle if a snow route is declared its not like the city has just sprung these new rules on us......

They still haven't plowed the main street in my neighbourhood. I also don't get why they are announcing this- people are starting to park there again. I hope they get plowed in.

We parked on our street last night but the plow had already been through and I was skeptical they would do another pass.

Great, that means I can no longer use the adjective I was planning on using to describe the people who did that on our major street. Then a couple of hours later when I was walking my dog I watched the crews trying to work around the people who decided they could park there. They did their best theu could; but still didn't get it done as well as they could have.

So people being self centred and lazy resulted in the streets not getting cleared properly. Thanks.

The question was asked before how other cities do it? I seem to recall in Winnipeg them making an ad campagn in the 90s about how they were not responsible for damage they cause to vehicles left on snow routes or residential streets when a parking ban was in place. Yes- there are times in Winnipeg when nobody is allowed to park on the strret.

Haha! There is a car still parked on our main street. They just plowed around him. I imagine he'll be getting that car out sometime around April.

I wouldn't have parked there if it hadn't been plowed already. They had it scrapped down to the bare pavement so I figured it was safe.

What is the point of snow routes if they aren't going to plow the snow routes?

Are you saying they didn't do yours, FKA?

Mine wasn't done until late yesterday; we came home at 8:30 and they had done the first pass. So I had 2 moments of concern; first that we weren't going to get done, and then that they weren't going to do anything about the 2 foot high and 6 foot wide hills of ice chunks they had left between the meadians where there are cross streets. I actually had to drive back out of my neighbourhood and approach from the other side to not have to attempt to cross one.

Then of course about 90 minutes later they came back to finish the job.
