Sure... but this isn't really an example of the NHL being willing to move teams to a potentially more profitable city. They're moving to a new arena not a new city and It's not like moving from America West Arena to Jobing has done much to improve the fortunes of the Coyotes.

Gotta wonder how sight lines will be.. I know at America West Arena in PHX 1/3 of the building couldn't see one of the nets.

Only 14,500? What will they do about all the displaced season ticket holders?

Hockey at Barclays will be an odd fit, because the arena wasn’t built with a long, oval-shaped ice rink in mind.
There’ll be very few tickets sold in the south end of Barclays when the hockey is played, creating an unconventional U-shaped seating chart.

This is a joke right? They're moving from the oldest piece of garbage arena in the league, located in an area that was nearly inaccessible by public transit and a pain in the ass via car to a brand new state of the art arena in the middle of downtown of a city that if counted by itself would be one of the biggest in the country and you're comparing it to the move in Phoenix. Ridiculous.

While it may have only 14500 unobstructed seats that isn't to say that they can't sell more than that. For big games and with the giant scoreboard they could still sell obstructed seats. People go to watch road games in the playoffs on the scoreboard at various rinks around the NHL. They could do the same at home games in Brooklyn.

The Press Conference is being streamed on the Islanders' website, for anyone who's interested (the stream has started but the PC hasn't started yet).

Ok, whatever you say bubba. If you can point out anything from what you quoted that's factually inaccurate I'd love to hear it.

Could they make the rink smaller? I would like the NHL to go back to unique rinks that aren't all the same size and a team could build a team around a small Buffalo Aud rink or an European Sized rink. That would be home ice advantage.

Is it me, or does the seating configuration in that building seem really shallow? It looks like it might actually be a pretty crappy place to watch hockey.

Considering the arena was originally made for basketball then it's not shocking that it wouldn't be an ideal place for hockey.

from the seating charts, it looks like they push back the front rows of seats. Maybe they aren't so shallow for hockey.

I can't imagine sections 1 & 31 being enjoyable lower bowl seats.

Confirmed (Wang): 25 year deal for the Islanders to play at the Barclay's Center starting in 2015-16.

Well for one this move is nothing like the Phoenix one. Phoenix moved from basically the core to the outter city limits, Islanders are doing the exact opposite. You can't really compare the two moves outside of actually moving.

Does this mean a complete re-tooling of the franchise in terms of name and logo?

How about your 100% completely factually inaccurate statement that they aren't moving to a new city? Does that work, bubba?
Not only is it a different city, it's not even close to being the same city. It's not a different suburb, it's a move from well out in the suburbs to directly downtown in one of the countries biggest cities. But yeah, you were totally accurate. Bang up job.
