Cornish wins Cdn of the week. Good stats, but he actually doesn't do THAT much. Many of his yards were a gift from the Montreal DC, he'd have two linebackers, one above the G or T and the other blitzing. All Cgy had to do is double the DT or DE, open up a hole where the blitzing LB was and he was on to the safety 12 yards later. Easy running. Mtl cleaned that up at halftime and the yards weren't as easy. Cornish is a great back, and as a Cdn a huge asset but he didn't do much vs Mtl that wasn't simply a gift.
Speaking of not doing much, that rookie safety made that return because he was so late, if he arrived sooner he would not have been able to clean up the fumble as easy as he did. Maybe he'll turn out to be a great player but he really didn't do that much all game other than be in the right spot at the right time.
On the other hand that wide side CB, #8 was unreal. Physical on the line, turns into coverage quickly and fills on the run to his side as well as I've ever seen a corner in the CFL. #0 is great in coverage, #25 does everything a DB should do flawlessly and overall I have never seen a Cgy secondary play that well in the first half of the year, never mind first game. #12 may be the best defender in the league, I hope he stays healthy tho, lankly LB's with long limbs get hurt more often.
Talley had the drops but unlike others I don't think you sit him now. He's the future at SB, so you have to give him a good look, and he made some great plays last year so I think you need to ride him out a bit longer, but he is on the watch list.
