In every world he should be bunting in that position. What world would you bunt in? That's the perfect situation to put a running in scoring position with the meat of your order coming up.

It's the perfect situaton to give a team a free out, and it's far to early in the game to be bunting to try and get a 1 run lead. Bunting has no place in baseball anymore besides the National League

Suppose there is a runner on first on none out. How many runs does an average MLB team score in an inning is this situation? The answer is 0.93 runs. Now let’s bunt and suppose the bunt succeeds. Now we have a runner on second base and one out. How many runs does an average major league team score in an inning with this situation? The answer is 0.71 runs. Therefore the “success” of the bunt has cost our team ) 0.22 runs. This should make it clear why the bunt is usually a bad idea. Of course, if the batter is a poor hitter (like a pitcher) the bunt might make sense or if the score is tied and our goal is to simply score a single run the bunt might be a good idea.

I disagree. Plus if you have someone with decent speed at the top of the lineup and he can put down a good bunt it'll force a tough throw that could lead to errors or runner being safe anyway. I'd rather see a bunt and move someone up then grounding into a double play.

Does anyone have any statistics on how often a double play happens during a situation like this?

You're taking the bat out of one of your hottest and best hitters hand, to try and play for a single run in the 3rd inning. The probability of scoring a run actually goes down by giving the team an out. Of course moving the runner ahead would be more desirable then a double play but you can't manage an AL game that way any time a runner gets on 1st. You are welcome to your own opinion however

Another incredible start by Morrow. Gutsy 7th inning when he had already passed a 100 pitches and gets the A's in order

Good sign to see Lawrie starting to get more and more extra base hits and really drive the ball, like he did last season

J.P has really been swinging it well since his horrid start. I'll gladly bite my tongue if he continues to hit like this.

I think it's easy to forget just how great Arencibia hit the ball in the minors, especailly his last season before getting called up when he one the PCL Hitter of the year and had an OPS of .986. He could still be a very effective offensive catcher in this league

Good stuff. Gotta like the way Morrow seems to be progressing this year.

The Blue Jays hit 3 home runs at The Coliseum in Oakland today. The A's have 12 home runs total in 12 games at home in Oakland this year.

Morrow struck out a season high 10 batters this afternoon. He is 4-0 with a 0.65 ERA in his past four outings.
