What I like about them is the low back door which makes it easier to accidently bump some persons head on the frame when your putting them in the back seat.

Calling Sergeant's Riggs and Murtaug you're cars ready for pickup.

Here's a cop review. It's good but not wide enough for comfort.

Actually, that’s not exactly right. First of all, I’m hefty but I’m nowhere near the biggest guy at my department. In most respects the Taurus has plenty of room. The seat adjusts six ways from Sunday. The steering wheel telescopes in addition to tilting, a huge improvement over the Crown Vic. The Taurus also includes adjustable pedals. Headroom was fine and I didn’t feel crowded to my left by the door. The problem was to my right. I’m right handed, as is most of the population. My holster was pressed against the seat-belt latch, which was in turn pressed tight against the metal side of the aftermarket console that contains the police radios and switch gear for the lights and siren. The pressure forced the end of my holster, which is an unforgiving lump of high- impact plastic, to dig into my leg.

Any idea if the CPS would choose the AWD system for their fleet? It would make a lot of sense here, especially since they don't swap to winter tires I don't think. How they drive the RWD crown vics during the winter with all seasons i'll never know.

They seem to manage, all things considered. Not sure they'd give the extra cash for AWD.

No way they'd give the extra cash for AWD. The Calgary and Edmonton Police Services opted out of a plan to have cars equipped with Winter tires due to the increased cost of $1 Million as it would mean carrying a massive amount of tire stock (each police car must be equipped with a full running set of tires plus a redundant set in reserve at all times).

why don't they buy a winter rated all-weather tire like Nokians?

The Taurus is a great choice. If it's good enough for Robocop, it's good enough for CPS.

That, I can't answer. I only knew about the winter tire thing because the father of my neighbor two doors down is the former Alberta Police Commisioner.

Have they taken delivery already or just a demo model?

thinking about it now, must be a test car or demo car since they wouldn't have even put the tender out yet since they only just made the decisions.

Yes, a test car - tender will go out now that the car has been finalized.

So does that mean if we own (for example) 500 cars we have 500 sets of extra tires? If so, that could be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. They need extra tires, but there's no way they need an extra set for every car, especially considering the cars are the same. If they have hundreds of these new interceptors, they'll all take the same tires, and it's not like every car is going to need 4 new tires on the same day.
