I work in a building that is 23 floors high. On Friday I was standing on top of the elevator room which is close to 25 floors high and saw many buildings shadow me. I think some of the buildings must be close to double that size! But that is limited due to my view being blocked by these giant buildings.

What purpose does the Calgary Tower serve? Last time I went I remarked to my dad that it would be sweet to have an office all the way up there in those taller buildings across the street.

It holds up the revolving restaurant.

It serves as a reminder as to what was the tallest structure in our city for a long time.

I love the drunk ramblings of my buddy during the summer:

"If the Calgary Tower was completed in one continuous pour, why didn't they make it twice as big?"

It must've made sense to him at the time...

From Wikipedia:

Originally called the Husky Tower, it was conceived as a joint venture between Marathon Realty Company Limited and Husky Oil as part of an urban renewal plan and to celebrate Canada's centennial of 1967.

I guess they didn't imagine that Calgary's downtown would look anything like it does today. Still a nice landmark to have, makes the skyline distinguishable.

Those virtual tours of Seton are all kinds of awesome. Would be cool to have 30 storey towers going up down there one day. Twin cities... Calgary and Seton.
