What do you guys drink though honestly? I'm a fairly big man at 220lbs 6'3" and I consider myself drunk at 3 beers. 5 drinks and you're barely buzzed? wtf
Just beer usually.

I think I've just built up a tolerance. Although it's not the same all the time. If I'm tired and haven't eaten, then 5 beer would give me a buzz.
I hate that feeling of drinking w/o food and sleep. After 4, I feel like complete crap... not really a buzz, just shinguardty... which really sucks at the end of a week and its Friday night, you're tired and stressed and after 4 that night, you wanna go home.

Tell me about it.

And why is it that people always want to go out on Fridays? Seriously, do people not work? Who has energy to drink on Fridays?

Now Saturdays, they are a different story. But for some reason, it seems like Friday is the big night to go out.

I think this is one of those recycling and coop / internship topics for you (no offense Jordon)

Your a great guy and everything, but somewhat naive to these sort of things.

I had a friend that did 40 once in a night.

Problem with Sat nights are they just arn't he same.

Friday night is definatly tough. I've had a few good nights, but its usually earlier on in the semester. Towards the end, you are just wasting away your Friday nights whining about finals coming up... sharing common bitterness I guess, lol.

Sat nights are different. Friday nights are great, cause you wanna burn off the steam from the week (although I am tired). Sat nights are more of a movie / hang out night, or if its a heavy week for school, its doing homework. Otherwise, Sat nights are reserved for the poker / BBQ / hang out with friends / movie, with possibly a few drinks, but nothing heavy... Sat nights are definatly mellow.

Party atmosphere... different circumstances. Call it what you want, I guess. You call it a low life, I call it an engineer!

(forget it if you don't know what I'm talking about. Inside joke for other gears out there. I haven't yet demolished that traditional 40 beers yet)

Floor crawls in res... Country Crusades... pub crawls... random drinking games... you know.
Yup, engineering sure primes the liver. The centurion was shamfully easy when I did it. The real pointdexters were puking all over the bar after 30 shots of beer. I remember a guy peeing besinde me in the urinal puking all over his dink while peeing. Goof.

Working in the oilpacth sure encourages drinking. Good gawd stampede is ######ed, you are sometimes p*ssed by 9:00 am with the frac juice that is ingested.

What was the name of that bar where saigon y2k is now by mcmahon? Anyone remember.
You mean Yucatan's?
Oh yeah I guess I'm a heavy drinker.

Ehhh.. I used to be a much heavier drinkiner, in my first uni days, not so much now. But I do find whenever I mlove back to Asia I tend to drink a lot more. (not as much to do here..) had 4-5 pints last night, will have a couple more tonight probably.
When I lived in China though... wooo doggy. The beers there are all big bottles (so 492ml I think..) you start drinking at lunch, stop to teach for a bit, and then continue drinking the night away. It was rude not to:P

This isn't being naive at all... 40 in a night ISN'T something to be proud of. Neither is 12, alchohol abuse isn't anything to be proud of. Nor do I find it cool or hip to get shinguardfaced, i've seen alcohol destroy families. Or perhaps I was raised to appreciate and enjoy the poison i'm putting into my system.

A beer with a steak dinner, and i'm there. 12 beers alone after work and you need help.

If anyone is being naive my friend, it's you for not seeing the problem associated with heavy drinking.

I will admit, I do have a couple nights a year where I drink myself sick and while it is fun... I truly don't see any reason to do it often.

My 2 cents have been laid out, you can attack my opinion but I don't want to turn this into a Jordon vs The World thread because i've been there before.

It's been a while since I 've seen one of those threads. I always enjoy those Jordon vs. Captain Planet threads, what can I say?

No, I don't see myself as an alcoholic or having problems with alcohol abuse or what-have-you. I did have one stupid night where I got alcohol poisoning, but thats about it. Nor do I have any family issues with it (obviously) nor do I forsee any problems since I'm generally a happy drunk.

I drink in many different situations... sometimes, to get trashed, sometimes for a social event (house party, ect), sometimes for drinking games just for fun, sometimes just to sit around, have a pint and do some catching up, and sometimes for the taste.

You don't see drinking as something attractive... I can respect that. One of my best friends hates it when I drink, esp after that one stupid night. Whenever I hang out with her, we do the more-girly go out for tea and play piano and watch movies (ya ya, crack it up wise guys). Another one of my close friends (tho not as close) has had family issues with alcohol, and hates to see me drink so much too. So no, I don't think your opinion is "stupid" - in fact, I respect it.

However, I think you are quite niave to think 12 is alcohol abuse. Far from it, in fact. Heck, I had 14 my grade 12 grade night. Look at this very thread, and see how much some can take. Up at school, almost everyone I know can drink me under the table, and half of them can demolish 30-35 cleanly. 12 is not abnormal by any stretch of hte imagination.

I would classify alcohol abuse as someone who consistantly drinks and it causes problems with their social life. I've seen actual "alcoholics" ... one of my friends who had 5 drinks before 8am in the morning, and would have about 25-30 a day. He was put on a program in res within 2 weeks. I also have other friends who drink heavily (being >20) more then 3 times a week. Personally, like I said earlier, I have my nights about once a month (usually, I don't feel drunk until after 10-12)

Also, engineers drink. Lots. Make note of it.

If you have 5 drinks a night, every night, then I consider that being addicted to drinking. My best friends mom has about 4-6 glasses a wine every day, probably more during the summer, I consider her being addicted to alcohol.

Personally, I'm 22, never got big into drinking, don't like the taste, don't like to be not in control of my actions. I think those people that get "SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WASSSSSSSSSSSSSSTED" to be sortof pathetic, and some of my best friends are like that and I hound them all the time when they act ######ed or drive home drunk. I keep telling them that all it takes is one DUI and you're fataed for at least the next 10 years.

I know there are people who drink often and are responsible, but there are more who drink often and aren't responsible.

Dude, you gotta relax. Actually, I'm responding to about 4 of your posts. I'm just too lazy to do the cut & paste crap...

Anyhoo, so you've had a bad experience with a guy with a drinking problem. Therefore, you are qualified to pass judgement upon the world? Hey, I can drink a case of beer & remain cognizant. The fact that you can't doesn't make the rest of the world fataed up. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt & assume that you aren't condemning everyone with 12+ beer capacity, just those that exercise it on a regular basis, to which I still say screw off. You really need to accept the fact that not everyone sees it the way you do.
Meet my mom's ex boyfriend... The man who could easily consume a case of beer & remain the most easy going, likeable fella in the city of Calgary. The dude liked his beer, and was very responsible about it.
Just because you can smell his poison doesn't make him a lowlife. A lowlife is a person who judges someone else, based on negotiable terms. ie, you.

You are right, I was wrong by labelling anyone as a lowlife. Because I too have seen drinkers drink ALOT and be almost normal. I like funny drunk people, not ignorant, or mean spirited drunk people.

I've also see people who's life revolves around having AT LEAST 6 beers a day, I pity them if anything... if you honestly need to drink that much on a daily basis you need to find a hobby or something.

Getting drunk is one of the most overated activities on the planet.

I guess there are 2 kinds of drinkers, just as an example

1) Those who drink casually with a good dinner, or on a patio on a hot day (Not consuming upwards of 2 pints in a sitting)

2) Those who drink simply for the effect, and very regularly, in large quantities.

I don't have a problem with #2 as long as you are a responsible person... if you can't handle the ammount of alcohol you consume, then don't drink that much! shinguard ain't hard.

I also don't know why people tell me to "relax" on this board... i'm one of the most relaxed, laid back people you could ever meet, I just speak passionately here which comes off like i'm blowing a gasket. But i'm not.

5 drinks in one sitting 12 or more times a year?

Dude, that's lightweight

only 5????

edit: after reading the thread

I'm in a great situation, it's to the point where I can drink based on my mental attitude. If I want to get drunk cheaply I can since I'm a tall skinny fellow, I can. However if you want to go toe to toe drinking... Hi my name is Jon and you'll be amazed when this skinny frame chugs Vodka

There are some nights I look back at and wonder how I didn't die. Then again, what else is there to do, haha.

My heavy drinking days are behind me as soon as the lockout started, I only drink on game nights. The number of drinks I have had since the lockout started can be counted on one hand. I used to have 2 per period on game nights.
