Good points. I'm definitely not in the camp that this should be squashed outright or anything. Everyone in the province benefits from the resources that happen to be here. The only aspect of this I'm leery about is the lack of ERP info.

As both a resident of Royal Oak and an engineer in the Oil and Gas industry (though with no interest in this particular well), I can say that I have absolutely no problem with this well going in.

Unfortunately I was away on vacation and couldn't attend the information session, but the newsletter that was sent out definitely got my attention. The article about the well was clearly written by people with no experience in the Oil and Gas industry, and they clearly didn't do a whole lot to get any advice from anyone who did. There was a lot of using quoation marks to make things sound scary, taking a lot of information out of context, mentioning, but not naming sources, and whether it was intentional or not, some outright false information.

Yes, there are definitely some legititmate issues with drilling a well that close to a community, some safety, some noise, some aesthetics, but what the newsletter did was ignore those in favour of the incredibly far feteched non-issues, and was in my opinion, the absolute worst kind of NIMBYism.

Man I wish I'd have been there to ask a few RELEVANT questions, and throw my support behind it.

Does Walmart even own a large chunk of Murphy shares? From what I gather, they just have an agreement to put the gas stations in Walmart parking lots....

I agree that the newsletter article was way over the top and didn't focus on the legitimate issues ..... but when the company comes out in an interview and basically says the community is over-reacting and emotional (can't find the link right now, it was in the Sun 2 weeks ago) they aren't really helping with the situation.
As I said before, I really have no opinion and am not really concerned, but the company is doing a terrible PR job here.
NIMBYism .... mild, maybe, not extreme. Extreme is when you build your house up against a known TUC and want to stop the road from being built or wanting to keep a road open that always was slated for closure (both these have happened in Royal Oak and Rocky Ridge). I don't think anybody builds or buys a home anywhere in Calgary and expects an oil well to be drilled nearby.

^ Here's to hoping it's temporary - hate it when blind NIMBY panic wins.

Glad there's a review. I'm pleased with whichever way this goes now.
