Oh I know, like I said a friend of mine has one. It's got everything, dryer, from cool to warm heat, heated seat, lighted controls so you can go in the dark. And all of it, is at the end of the day better environmentally than going through roll after roll of TP.

And like you said, WAY more sanitary.

I just can't afford one.

Sorry, I misunderstood, but I'm leaving the rest up there cause it's kinda cool and others may be interested. The wash gun is a good idea. I'd just wanna work out the pressure obviously.

I think remembering and understanding are 2 separate things. I was born in 1980. Sure I remember the 80's. Awesome hair, wicked music, cartoons in the morning.

But I never understood the 80's. Bad economy. Pollution issues hitting mainstream. Oilers actually having a winning team.

Pssh going green is easy, especially for the lazy and the cheap.

Reusable bags keep me from paying for plastic bags (and good on the stores business-wise for charging for bags. I used to double bag everything just to stock up on free plastic bags heh).

Reusable coffee mug equals discount coffee for refills at most places.

Rechargeable batteries seem cheaper than regular batteries... the only inconvenience there is bringing dead ones to Staples.

Composting saves me from buying fertilizer... plus I don't have to bag my grass clippings in plastic bags...just dump them in the bin.

Socks and underwear get worn until they have 2" holes. Plus the average age of my clothes is probably 2-3 years. Hell I still wear the Board Doctor jacket I got back in high school sometimes. New clothes are expensive and overrated...plus I'd actually have to take time to shop if I need clothes...ugh.

And less water-use and electricity use equals more money in my pocket.

So there you have it. More often than not, cheap and lazy = green

P.S. oh yeah and now EB Games is calling all used games "recycled" games. I'm saving the environment by being too cheap to buy new games :P

If stores just stopped giving out any bags at all we would all adjust and start bringing in our own nylon bags in about 2 or 3 days flat.

Those are all good points Transplant but I have to tell you that I am 27 and have never ever blamed older generations for being wasteful. I am fairly convinced that most of our problems right now stem from the mass consumption of more recent generations. My mom was one of the first people I knew to use reusable grocery bags. So I do see your point however I do think it might be based on the false premise of only a few, perhaps ignorent people, like you cashier at the grocery store.

It's important to remember that "reduce, reuse, recycle" isn't just a list. It's an order of importance. Recycling is the least important of the three, yet gets pushed the most as the thing we should do to help the environment.

It's important to recycle, but it's much more important to reduce the amount we need to recycle.

I use those bags to throw out my kitty litter, and other household garbage. Now I have to go out and specifically buy bags that are just as bad if not worse, that aren't being re-used. Re-use used to be environmental, too.

Just something that pisses me off about the people who have a huge smile on their face thinking they are some kind of superhero saving the world for re-using their plastic bags and buying "green" windex and putting it in the back of their v8 Lexus.

These are the people I'd call ignorant.

This world is beyond the point where plastic bags is going to make a difference. We are pretty much screwed.
So what kind of car do you drive then?

I was just going to mention that with so many of these great enviro types perhaps we should do an audit on the "what car do you drive" thread.

I just don't get people who don't even bother to recycle paper and plastic stuff assuming there's a fairly easy venue to do it (either a city pickup or drop off location). Even if there's only a marginal environmental benefit at least it keeps it out of landfills.
The plastic bins from Superstore are the best. Why bother with bags at all (unless you're not driving).

This is what I was getting at in estimating Vulcan's age. Sure, one could be alive in the 50's and "remember" it, but I doubt they were thinking critically about the issues brought up in the OP, if they were a child during that time period.

I look at this BS holier than thou attitude this current generation has, and it makes me sick. It is the most wasteful, irresponsible generation I have ever seen.

X-box is broke.. meh, just buy another one for 150 bucks, and throw the old one in the trash. New cell phone every 6 months. New 50" TV every 3 years. How many batteries do people throw in landfills on an annual basis now?

I think growing up, we replaced our TV once, when it broke, and had the same kitchen phone for the 18 years I lived there. When things were broken, you called a repair man, you didn't just throw your disposable crap away to the landfill.

We didn't have 800 garbage, piece of junk plastic, injection molded p[lastic toys that litter peoples houses and back yards now. You had a few toys, a swing set, and sandbox in the yard, and your bicycle.

90% of the current gen is frikkin lip service. They say all this stuff about how enviro friendly and awesome they are, yet they are the most wasteful, disposable generation I have ever seen. I cannot claim to be any better either, because I am just as hypocritical with all my junk.

It is usually far far cheaper to buy a new item nowadays then it is to have it fixed.

Yeah. My xbox finally failed on me late last year after serving me for 5 years. So I bought another...but in my defense I bought a used one for $45, and keep the other one around for parts just in case .

Actually most statistics show this to be exactly the opposite. For instance, young people are more likely to walk or use public transit to go places.

The cost of repairing an Xbox is more than the purchase price of a new one.

How many 18-30 year olds do you know that can afford to purchase a new TV every three years? I think you need to re-evaluate just which generation is purchasing these things. People my age simply don't have that kind of buying power.

How many times have you replaced your TV since you've lived on your own? Most people my age don't even own a house phone and, once again, the cost of repairing a cell phone is often more than the purchase of a new one. Further to this, how many repair companies still even exist and how convenient are they?

You didn't have it because it didn't exist. And again, it's the parents that are buying these toys, not the kids.

Of course you are. Everyone is. The hilarious part about is that it's not a people or generational thing. It's exactly what a capitalist society breeds. I'm not a socialist by any means, but I do find it hilarious the amount of people belonging to the older generation who so adamantly defend and support a completely free market and then bitch about the blatantly obvious effects of it (inflation, high prices, unemployment, excess, greed, waste, etc.).

I don't disagree with you for one second. My main point is the fact that the most wasteful generation in the history of the world, is somehow blaming the one before them for global problems, and being the biggest sad sack of hypocrites ever.

However, I am sure they will change their facebook photo, and status to bring urgent attention to the matter. They care THAT DAMN MUCH!

This planet is going to hell in a hand basket. Plain and simple.
