I love sci-fi (not the crap like starwars and halo/starcraft stuff...that shouldn't be anywhere near the sci-fi scection) but have never read one of its best known series. It is pretty decent...not amazing, but a fun read.

I'm a big fan of the Niven/Pournelle books like "Lucifer's Hammer", "Mote in God's eye" and "Footfall" I must have read those books at least six times each. Have you read any of them?

I was reading the latest Dean Koontz novel "The Taking" but it started to get way too weird for my liking right now so I've put it aside for a bit. Probably going to start the latest Douglas Preston novel "The Codex" for some light relief! I quite like the Preston/Child books so will give this one a go.
I haven't read any of those! They are worth checking out? I am almost done the Foundation series, so I am on the lookout for more good sci-fi! (Fantasy is alright too)[/b][/quote]
You have GOT to read Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle books then. 'Lucifer's Hammer' is about a comet hitting the earth. Really good 'end of the world' story. 'Mote in God's Eye' is a First Contact future story while 'Footfall' is a First Contact present day invasion of Earth story. All really good books. All well worth a read.

I remember reading Lucifer's hammer years ago, in fact I'm sure its still in one of my bookshelves (I have a serious problem with buying and keeping books, I've got thousands). Really hard book to read at the start, then it gets good in the middle and has a Stephen King ending.

The Warriors by Sol Yurick. It's the novel that the cult 1979 Walter Hill film of the same name is based on. Quite a bit different than the movie, though.
Cool. I Didn't know that was a book.

I'm reading yet another Jack Welch book. Pulp fiction for the business world.

Just finished Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, which was a bit dissapointing.

Also recently finished a series of Dennis Lehane books (might have the spelling off, the guy who wrote Mysitc River). Dark, almost 50s inspired detective novels. I quite liked them.

most recent book I finished reading was The Spirit of Alberta Indian Treaties.
Pretty damn good read. It really helps to get a grasp on current issues.

Last fiction I read was three Thomas Mann short stories.
