Back in my day it was societal suicide to go there. Certainly a very smart schoolastic choice though, but when you're 12 you don't care about that, you care about your buddies and knowing you won't get laid until you're 19+,,,

Who misinformed you about GATE? That program was all about goofing off and having fun. It was just goofing off and having fun with a bunch of fairly bright creative people. GATE was a really good time in my experience.

Same. In class, you get way more chance to socialize and out of class doesn't change a great deal (at least, comparing grade 9 and 10)
