I thought you lived in St. Albert. I don't think there's another municipality in Alberta that can hold a candle next to us when it comes to snobbiness. We invented pretentious!

PS- Oh, just a disclaimer: driving here sucks. Like, SUCKS. The roads all simultaneously go under construction every summer (on a much larger scale than Calgary) so its actually quicker getting around in the winter believe it or not.
The city's capital budget is almost guaranteed to be slashed in half in a week and a half, so you can expect to see a sharp decrease in construction work over the next three years.

Haha yep, we're the sultans of snob. I do live here, I just assume most people who don't live in the GEA don't see/know much of a difference between Edmonton & its surrounding areas so I talk like I live there.

That's great news! So sick of all the damn closed/single lane roads all summer. Even the Henday's finally resembling a real highway lately. Things are finally coming up Sainters.

I'd be quite happy if they'd twin Ray Gibbon drive. Although the drive home from work has been 16 to 18 minutes of late as opposed to the 40 it was before they finished the Henday. Still there is always some pretentious twat who insists on driving 55 on that road.

I've lived in Edmonton or the region for over 50 years and only once have I ever felt at risk, which is the same number of times I've felt in danger in Calgary, having spent a lot less time there. Otherwise I've never had a house or car break in or have had my personal safety threatened. Those are stupid generalizations.

You've lived in Edmonton for 50 years and haven't been shot or stabbed? That's pretty amazing. I bet you've been involved in some kind of arson, though.

I live in the (previously proclaimed) "center of snobbishness" and had my van stolen off my driveway (Lacombe Park) two summers ago by a meth head (RCMP tracked the little b*stard down, but not before the vehicle was sold to a "dial-a-doper" who, it turned out, used it for months, then burnt it).

Not that this same thing couldn't have happened to anyone, anywhere...

Some people's kids.

I'll never forget the feeling; sitting at the dining room table drinking my morning coffee, then looking out the front window..."Ummm honey? Where's the van?" Edmonton K Division was at a loss as to how they managed to defeat the anti-theft mechanisms...

and the insurance company paid up, and life goes on...

I don't feel endangered just because I live in the Edmonton area.

Also? I lived in Calgary for 15 years...

There are plenty of "sketchy folks" in Calgary too...I had a place in Bowness for my last three years living there (close to my shop, so it made sense to purchase...until I actually lived there).

There was "stuff" going on constantly in that "hood".

Enough said.

As (I'm sure) you know, we're not going to see that until the Province re-designates it as the Highway 2 corridor, and accepts the full responsibility for funding it.
As it sits, I'll just be happy once St. Albert builds phase 3 and gets the heavy trucks off of Giroux Road...I live on the North side of Lacobme Park.

I sense "thread drift" here...the traffic woes of St. Albert? LOL!

Luckily I drive a station wagon, the one type of vehicle impervious to police and thieves. I'm pretty sure it's invisible to all other people in general actually.

Agreed. I'm a southsider and close to Lacombe so I always take Campbell into Edmonton, so glad its finally done. Man that was a nightmare all spring/summer/fall with it down to 1 lane, it'd just be massive trucks constantly on it, always going like 35. The worst.

I didn't realize there were so many people from St. Albert on here.

On the contrary, they love it. Makes me look stable and wise beyond my years. Not too hard on the eyes either.

Yeah, I'm south side of Deer Ridge, so I'm on Giroux every day. We should have a thread ranting about photo radar in St.Albert, and if it is about safety or cash.

Warning to the OP....if you have to go to St.Albert make sure you know the speed limit, and drive it. Unlike my friend from high school who had a silver station wagon....your vehicle looks capable of breaking the speed limit. 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity with tinted windows...not so much.

100% truth. I got FOUR tickets my first year in St. Albert. And by no means am I some leadfoot. One of em was on Sir Winston by all the schools, dude was sitting in the school parking lot...at 10pm on a Wednesday. WTF???

That old dude in his gray jeep, looks like he's sleeping whenever I see him. Hate that guy. I wanna sneak up to his jeep one time when he's snoozing, take off his plate & put it on mine, then cruise by later going like 95.

I take it every day. It's 3km out of a 6km commute for me. Honestly, the time it takes you to drive 3km at 50km/h instead of 70km/h is pretty minimal. I didn't notice having to drive much slower than 50 most of the time, I don't know how you kept getting stuck at 35.

I take Pourier Ave to Pineview Dr to go home every day, and I'm amazed how lucrative that spot is for the cops. I swear, if there's a cop there, he's guaranteed to have someone pulled over at that intersection every time I drive through there. I don't know how people don't figure it out.

I don't know, just my luck I suppose. Was anywhere from 35-50, depending what was in front of you. The amount of times a big dump truck would come off the hill and pull in right in front of me was unbelievable. For awhile there it was happening practically every time.

That's when I was still at UofA and Groat Road & the Circle Square roundabout were all bunged up from construction too, that was a fun daily commute...thankfully I work in St. Albert now. 5min commutes rule.

St. Albert. If it weren't for the traffic, I'd probably move there.

I'm inner city right now. Makes it nice for work - 6 minute drive, 10 with traffic. On the flip side, I see a lot of transient issues

Here's my beef...I've never seen a cop or photo radar on Giroux by Bellerose highschool where the speed limit is 60km an hour. It's very open and visible, everyone would see the photo radar vehicle. Oddly...the speed limit does not change going past the school. Come into St.Albert on McKenny where it goes from 60 to 50 at Lacombe Lake park, theres a speed trap there once a week.

Than if I drive down Dawson, 4 lane road, no school...speed limit for some reason is 50, and there is often photo radar hidden behind the one transformer going South, or the bushes before you turn onto Langholm going North. Since there are obstructions blocking them they can only get you going one way. So I can fly down Dawson at 100...but slow down for that one spot and I'm golden, or I can drive 80 past the school on Giroux. If I drive 61 all the way down Dawson road...I'm a safety hazzard. Once you figure out where they hide, you can drive like a nut everywhere else. Tell me...how is that enforcing safety?
