All I am saying is that if your roof can be fixed for a minimal amount ity is better than to go through insurance. If you have enough damage and the entire roof needs to be replaced....go for it. We had wind damage on our house a couple years back and the shingles could have been repaired but there was no match...... this meant a new roof was in order. $12000 claim later we went through insurance.
If you can fix it for under $500. better to fix than to go through insurance.
Some insurance companies will even waive the deductible if it is over a certain amount.

Be wary of these guys going around and saying you need a new roof. What happens is they make you go through your own insurance and they get paid by the insurance company and get to it when they get time. Could be months before you even get the new roof.... if at all.
Everyone needs to be cautious on this one.

What I'm curious about, is I hear a lot of people on here bashing the way that this company is going door to door to gain sales. I think it is a smart way of doing it.
I was approached by this same company to have my roof and siding done to my home. I called and made my claim. When I phoned my customer service person from Platinum up, they were very informative and helpful. They explained the process to me and made it very clear that there was no cost or obligation with their service (If it was a scam, wouldn't they want money????). When my adjuster came out, they tried to tell me that it was wear and tear on my roof and that the holes to my siding were not from the storm. I was upset and called Platinum to tell them that I had been denied and to close my file. My customer service person explained the differences between RCV insurance and ACV insurance to me. Again, she was full of knowledge that I didn't know about my own policy that I have been paying for. I called my insurance company back and followed the steps that Platinum had suggested. My insurance company came back out for another inspection. Platinum was also there and they all met on my roof. Platinum showed the adjuster the hail damage and asked them to explain how they can deny when it's very obvious. I won't go on with the details, but they approved my roof. The next thing was my siding. My insurance company tried to use something called fibernew on my siding. After speaking with Platinum and doing some research of my own, I refused the offer of fibernew from my insurance company. At this time, I asked Platinum to again step in. My customer service person spoke with my insurance company and I was able to get my house full re done with the ROOF and SIDING! I'm very appreciative to Platinum and the hard work that they did for me to help me.
In my opinion, after this ordeal, I'm more worried about my insurance company scamming me then Platinum.

As macker indicated, all these companies are super busy and I haven't been able to get anyone to come take a look at my roof. Most of them tell me that they are backed for 3+ months...
Question - if there is damage to my roof and it does not get fixed for 3-6 months, am I in serious trouble?

depends, usually not, if you are not missing shingles then even a fairly heavily pitted roof will be fine through the winter.

WOW... First, I do not work with or for Platinum, I was only sharing what they did for me and as I'm finding out, a few other people in my neighborhood. What is your problem with this company anyways? Have you used them? I would say from the ignorant way that you have disregarded my comments and from other threads where you are in a hurry to put them down or make people suspicious of them, that you haven't. Is it against the rules to say what good a company has done, or is this only a bash session and nothing positive is allowed?

Nice work Platinum, the best defence is a good offence.

Where else have I discussed them, perhaps supply a link to the thread.

This has nothing to do with the coverage/acceptance of damage, I understand if to be the calculation of payment.

I had a contractor tell me this worked well. Of course maybe you should have researched Fibrenew. Here is their Testimonials page:

Here is Platinum's:

Spam accounts, that clearly exist only to promote a business, are not very well tolerated by people around here. Especially those that do so with a fake testimonial.

You will be fine as you have likely initiated the claim already. Even if you haven't the act was recently changed to allow for more time to make claims. See above link. Busy year on the roofs this past Summer and will be again next Summer. Calgary hail stimulus program HE1, HE2, HE3. Many Insurance companies have already put caps on water damage. Hail is likely the next area where limits will have to be set and the hail printing presses will have to halt to some degree at some point. Rates have really gone up though in the past 2-3 years.
The drops on the chart http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...mmary/?q=ifc-T are hail storms (1 year chart).....

Well, I am not a spammer, nor am I promoting the company. I saw a thread where a lot of people were making negative comments about a company that I had used and had a positive experience with. A lot of negative comments from people who never tried the company I might add. I was just trying to put a positive spin on a clearly negative thread. I guess that is not allowed. Freedom of speech at it's best! If you don't agree with the thread, do not comment because you will be called a spammer or promoting a business (which it appears to be doing with other companies), and accused and attacked. Thanks but no thanks. Maybe you guys work for their competition... that would make since since you clearly are not wanting to hear both sides of the story.
On a personal note, I do not appreciate being personally attacked on here. I never did that, and am above that kind of abuse.

Has anyone ever used or know of Stronghold Exteriors.
Several other companies said I wouldn't be able to go through insurance, but these guys presented a case to me where I should definitely try.

Thanks Dan02 - very glad I asked!
The guy I've been conversing with was admittedly pretty smooth and seemingly knowledgeable, so extra glad I asked first before proceeding with them.

Anyone can recommend a roofing company for clay tile roof? I have a clay tile roof that needs some work done but a few of the roofing companies I called don't do clay tile roof.

Epic Roofing? Guns & Hoses?
Epic roofing would probably be a good bet. I've heard good things about them and I THINK they are on some insurers preffered contractor list.

As mentioned earlier, terrible, IMO.
For Clay tile guy I would suggest Epic, if they don't they will know who does.

All this time and still no roof? Those IKO organics must be looking pretty sketchy by now...
Before you pile on....my house is also roofed with this crap. I will be getting a new roof this summer, done by the best roofer I know...ME.
Last house I had in Calgary was roofed with Cedar shakes...that #### laughs at hailstorms.
Cheers!

lol...tell me about it...
Well - we had several estimates in the fall. One reliable (from what I've been told!) told us that shingles could probably last another 3 yrs and that he would check for us every 6 mths if we wanted. So, I asked him back last week and he's said they've really deteriorated
In the last week, the other company mentioned got back to us and said the following:
"A few minor hail strikes, as well as some hail ‘bruising’ on the shingles, with some shingles showing damaged edges, and loss of the top, granule, layer of the shingles. The majority of this damage was concentrated on the garage and front peaks of the roof. Also discovered was that your shingles show signs of ‘spider’ cracking, something not inconsistent with organic shingles from the IKO Renaissance line."
We were decided to go with other company starting in about 4 weeks to get it done and bite the bullet.
Now...wondering if should contact insurance to take a look. They also said our particular company was one of the easiest to deal with.
What to do. As always, thoughts appreciated. First time going through this crap...
