Ya at that point I said UO was dead to me, then I activated a few days ago to play with some old friends.
Sonoma is a ghost town, I still rock the SAS tag and I recognized one guild name, PAS, although I am pretty sure their old GM King David has died of old age by now
The PvP is still fun, but connection speed ruined the game. Anyone can off screen now so fast that you can't even react, I now see the reason that new generation MMO's are in first not third person view...
It still should be possible to put a server side frame cap in UO - theyre still working on coding from when 99% of people had dial up.
I think they could still do an MMO with UO style view. When I finally gave my account away 3 years ago, they were still dominated by client side speedhacks.
I've heard that Atlantic has the best pvp community atm, the only one that is really active.
What do you mean by the Magazine? Just launching 5 decent to see what sticks instead of spending too much time on 1?
More or less. Make sure that you're keeping a set of MMOs up, trying to specialize each of them as best you can and putting support behind them. No single MMO is ever going to kill WoW

This is true, especially since MMO's die a hard death.
Games like UO and DAoC that had a large following (for their times) are still alive and playable with regular content upgrades and patches. Thats 14 or 15 years for UO, and 12 or 13 for DAoC... I think WOW is at about 9 so far?
Amazing the longevity these games can have when you find one that works.

My favourite thing of WoW is running dungeons with friends.
So many have left WoW, I only know a small handful of people who still play. I have 3 lvl 85s and a couple in the mid-70s that I am levelling while running dungeons with a couple friends. One benefit with how easy many of the dungeons have been made; it isn't difficult at all to run with 3 characters (even when dragging a newbie DPS who is the bottom of the damage meter).

Been watching some videos of the beta for Pandaria and for some strange reason, I've got the itch to play again. I'm sure I'll get exhausted of playing quickly but I always did have fun playing this game.
Haven't logged in since 2009, so just wondering if anyone wants to do the Scroll of Resurrection thing with me?
Cinematic Trailer released. Kinda meh to me, but still looking forward for some new things to do in this game.
I think BC was the golden age of wow. I think I'm done with this game now, given too much time out of my life already. Ill wait until Titan and they will have be hooked again
While the cinematic is great, the content just doesn't interest me. Cata was able to pull me back in for a 3 month to see the changes and have a go at it. But MoP doesn't have that kind of draw. Ah, well. For me, WoW had a great run, but it's over now.
I find a game usually lasts me a month or less, so if WoW can put out an expansion for $50, pay for two months of subscription and it lasts me three months - I'll consider that a success.

I was actually a latecomer to WoW; I started playing in July 2010. I can only imagine how boring the game must be to anyone starting before that. I actually just finished a three month break cause I had nothing to do.
I know what you mean about "golden age." I played FFXI 2004-2010 and its golden age was 06-09. There's been a full expansion including level caps going up 24 levels in the last two years but after so long, it's just old and meh.
Well, I see that Blizz has decided to make it dirt cheap to jump on the WoW bandwagon. $5 will get you vanilla and TBC, another $5 will get you WotLK, and $10 will get you Cata. I'd have to say, that if I was new to the WoW playing, $20 bucks to get up to MoP speed would be interesting.

I just really don't feel that wow is what it use to be. I remember playing back in BC and wow felt so epic to me every time i logged in. having a reputation on the server you were on actually meant something. Now with cross realm EVERYTHING, you can be a d*** and it really does not matter any more
Ya and to me it just feels like a big un organized mess. There is almost too much content now.
The virgin nerds ruin it for everyone else by demanding more moar moarrrrr!!
And even the content that is there, is just recycled. They have been using the same quests (outside the odd outlier) since vanilla. It just gets plain old after a while.
Class balance is a huge issue in PvP for that game as well, and always has been.

I'm not sure what you're expecting though. There's only so many ways to make quests, and when you add hundreds every expansion, you're going to recycle ideas. The reason vanilla or TBC felt so epic is because it was still fresh to you.
I didn't touch Cataclysm basically at all, but I'm raiding with some friends right now trying Firelands and stuff, and it's pretty interesting ideas. In the end though, it's all the same as always, with slight variations. MMOs will always be that way. And because of that, Karazhan and Ulduar will always be my favorite raids, and I doubt that can ever change for me.
You know a franchise is in serious decline when the release of an expansion comes and the thread has zero posts in the month leading up to it.
