Irrelevant to the victory this time, but if the Conservatives had lost or only won a minorty again, they would have been key and even a very small number of seats would have been worth it.

It's not inconceivable that people who would vote Liberal or Bloc may have switched to the Conservatives, but NDP voters aren't even worth the Conservatives effort. There isn't a party in this county who doesn't consider election repurcussions when they award contracts.

And those jobs will generate a lot of tax revenues

These contracts will literally save the ship building industry in Vancouver, and in Halifax, so its protecting something vital.

Plus the Destroyers we're replacing are nearly a half century old, and the Frigates are approaching what? 30 years. I won't even drive a car thats more then 10 years old. Its something that you have to invest in and is neccessary.

But we could continue to increase the dollars spent on social programs that will never pay anything back into the pot.

this is great new for our region for sure.

With regards to SJ upset that it went to Halifax and not to Saint John, I think it is more regret that our yard is now a wallboard plant and not still going. If you talk to the business people etc in this city they are excited about it and know that the spinoffs for Saint John and the larger NB and atlantic area are great.

I've really wondering what the quality of BC's shipyard work is going to be like given their past fast ferry fiasco not that long ago. I guess we'll see soon enough.

The conservatives actually took that into full consideration this time and made the process so transparent that hopefully it doesn't have as much political repercussions. It was a fair process.

The PQ are saying that they would have gotten Quebec a contract anyways. To me that seems like they are publicly supporting unfair bidding processes and cronyism. Hopefully voters will see that, though that might be expecting too much.

I hear that the Quebec Mob is ultra pissed at Harper today.

I suspect I'm going to see a lot of nonsense Facebook status's condemning Harper's warmongering and wreckless spending and instead suggesting that money should go to building schools for illiterate puppies and kittens.

Should have awarded the contracts to Fort McMurray and dredged the Athabasca and MacKenzie rivers as necessary.

I think Alberta has a good enough job market for tradesmen right now. So, good on Halifax and BC for winning the bids.

I especially like it that Quebec lost.
