Then please, distill the issue for us. Should people shift their discretionary spending to supporting science? That'd be great, but it's completely unrealistic.

Yeah, I don't understand "the issue" - we don't give them any money, so what's the problem?

The issue is the values placed on what Kim Kardashian does versus what doctors and scientists do, and what they contribute to the well-being of society. This has been clearly raised as something that is my opinion. Not anybody elses in this thread. Read my posts from the beginning, and it's abundantly, abundantly clear.
The issue has never been about successful business, making money and discretionary spending. As a former business student myself, I completely see the value in making money from something so niche. If you're good at what you, do, make money off of it if you can. Completely agree.
I think some of you are just looking to get in to an argument with me for argument's sake. And, of course, it seems to be the usual suspects.

The only thing I disagree with is the people that claim that the Kardashians are some kind of entrepreneurial whizzes. That they identified a niche and are brilliant at fulfilling that void.
They are idiots, through and through. Trout had it right when he said 'right place, right time'. They fell into D celebrity status because of an obscure reality show. Other, much smarter people recognized the odd fascination a small fan base had for them and molded these degenerates into what they are today.
I don't begrudge them their millions at all. I just find it insulting, for some reason, to attribute their success to brains and a long term plan.
Madonna was, and is, the perfect example of a celebrity exploiting a niche and continually reinventing herself to fulfill that role. Kim Kardashian, at the first hint of her waning fame, 'accidentally' released a sex tape. One requires brains and foresight ..the other only requires a complete lack of self respect. Big difference.

False choice, no? It's not like there are less doctors or scientists because of the Kardashians. If there were no Kardashians, people would spend more money on Paris Hilton, Think You Can Dance, Jersey Shore or similar drek. It's not like people will wake up and say "OMG - the Kardashians are gone! What will I do with the $20 this month??? I know - I will give it to NASA!"

I think this thread needs more pictures. I could care less how people make money and how much they make. If people want to hand over their money, they must be doing something right.
More pictures!

If you don't understand my point by now, after I've explained it many times, you're in need of more help than I orginally thought.

Oh and now on to personal attacks, yeah you're really driving that point home
Vlad countered your post quite well IMO and raised issues that were quite clearly related, and your response is whoosh? Grow up.

Seriously man, you need help. I've clearly explained my point, which is the value systems placed on the Kardashians vs. other professions.I've stated it over and over it is my opinion. I have also addressed their oppotunistic business prowess, which is something I've agreed with.
How come you can't understand that?

I completely understand that, my issue is with your apparent inability to address a legitimate point made in relation to that stance. If you can't muster the intellect to respond with anything other than whoosh it's really not my problem, but don't pretend that people are trying to pick a fight simply because you can't flesh out your position.

Yep, and then when a portion of it was challenged he went with whoosh as his counter point. Please re-read the thread.
