They have already said that various electronic methods have failed due to the weeds and seaweed in the lake; so they are now doing a search by hand.
I agree, it is tough tedious work.

Years and years ago a kid drowned by Stanley Park during a City of Calgary Rec program. The divers only found the kid by actually tripping over the body when they were coming out to change tanks.

Water is harsh enviorment. People often take the dangers for granted.

Yes, if you think about why. Mainly cost.

I can't believe I'm actually asking this question.

So hypothetically your father drowns in Chestermere lake. How would it make you feel that your father is still in the water and the only thing preventing him from being located is because a dive team has to trek over from B.C because of the associated costs with paying the CFD?

The family wants closure as soon as possible and the Calgary divers could have found him before the B.C team even made it to Calgary. I know if my dad was rotting in Chestermere lake I'd probably buy my own diving gear and look for him myself. I'm sure all of you would not want money to get in the way of finding your father asap as well.

Years ago I did a bunch of my SCUBA certifications, as well as taking the rescue diver course. It was one of the most intense weekends I have ever been a part of.

The course was "running" all the time, the instructors would sneak a person off and it would be up to someone to notice, take charge and start setting up searches of the lake (we were at Two Jack near Banff and lake Minnewanka). The diving itself was crazy, you'd have to get setup and go much faster than ever before, and hit the water with the search plan and your buddy and get to work.

Great to build confidence in your diving abilities, as for the first time ever that part was almost on autopilot as you concentrated on the search and keeping to the plan.

Lots of respect to the rescue divers out there, a tough job for sure.

Unfortunatly he had drowned about 1 or 2 minutes before the first of his friends said, 'hey where did Johhny go?', long before EMS was involved.

Because this wasn't about feelings. The question was why they didn't use a local team and used one from BC instead. It's already been explained in the media why they did so, so I just repeated it. Don't try to use a personal example with me, you should focus on the RCMP as I'm not the one you need to try and change.
