Good episode I thought. Great added sense of tragedy at the start showing Gale pushing so hard for the guy that's eventually responsible for his death.
I also thought that the "the following segment has scenes of extreme violence" warning message was a poor idea as it served as a mild spoiler for upcoming scenes.

Although his fate was somewhat imminent, you should add spoiler tag to this, since it was kind of the cliff-hanger from season 3.

Great episode. It may have lacked the action and 'thrills' of the last couple episodes, but that's only because we've been spoiled . It kind of sets the tone of the upcomming season that Heizenburg will not go away and I forsee him and Gus butting heads quite a bit.
The preview for episode 2 makes me think that it will be back to the crazy storyline twists...

I think it was a bit of a warning perhaps. THIS, is what can happen to you.

I agree. I think it was meant to show that despite Gus being the logical business man he can still be a maniac and f up anyone that messes with him. Definitely a warning.
Should be an interesting season.

I wasn't sure if it was because he didn't know his role and tried to be something he wasn't supposed to be or if he got sloppy at the apartment building. Gus is far too logical to do it as a warning.

Yeah that's true, it could have been the apartment thing. He did walk right in and then admit to it.

Hmm, I suppose, maybe Gus lost faith in the guy's abilities to enforce and lost trust in him. Not sure, maybe more will come to light.
Also, I thought the fly was the worst episode last season, kind of declined and then resurged hard in the last three episodes

Ya, there's a reason they showed him going into the apartment and then directly mentioning he did. 'tis why he got the box cutter haircut

It was totally the apartment thing. Mike asked him if he had been seen, and he said he had. That right there was the reason for the throat slash.
I liked how the episode was not what many were expecting at all. There were so many different theories of how Walt and Jesse were going to survive. There weren't too many that involved both of them going back to work.
Not sure where this season is going. I personally didn't get much of a sense and I thought they tied up the loose ends of Season 3 all in this episode. I think Walt and Jesse will try and find new work to get out of the grasps that is Gus.
Just love how this show is back.

I seem to recall reading in the off-season that Gale's fate wasn't supposed to be ambiguous at all. I think Vince Gilligan had said that it was meant to be very clear what happened to Gale, and he wasn't sure, but was sorry, that fans were uncertain what was meant to happen. In Gilligan's mind, it was absolutely NOT a cliff-hanger in that respect.
Anyway, for this season:

I didn't re-watch the end of season 3, and I can't recall why Saul is so paranoid of being bugged and such. Can someone fill me in?

Because he thought Mike, the old bald enforcer, was his dude, when in fact he's working for Gus. Mike threatened him at the end of the season to find out where Walt was. Thus Saul is a little paranoid.

ya it was done because he was seen, Gus is a cold mother f'er
great start to the new season though, bad move for AMC as well to have this pushed back a few months
Cranston could have just submit that episode and his three-peat would be complete, Aaron Paul would have gone back to back

The funny thing is that Mad Men also missed their chance to get all their actors Emmy's by not going in with no Breaking Bad.

You mean his four-peat?? He's already won three years in a row. But yeah, shame on AMC for this scheduling issue. But at the same time, Jon Hamm will finally get his well deserved Emmy that Cranston has be taking from him the last three years.

Huh?? The last season of Mad Men was just nominated for a bunch of awards. The nominations came out late last week.
The nominations are for shows that aired from June 2010 to May 2011. Mad Men's Season 4 aired last summer.
John Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, Christine Hendricks and John Slattery were all nominated for acting awards. Hamm is the slam dunk if you ask me although there's plenty of talk about Boardwalk's Steve Buscemi.
