What really bugs me is Anakin's character.# In the original trilogy we're lead to believe that he was once a good and noble man who fell to evil and temptation.# But all we see in Episode II is a guy who's alternatively a whiney brat or an arrogant jerk.# There's absolutely nothing sympathetic about his character at all.

It's almost as if he was...gasp...a teenager.
He's also a Jedi...maybe I just hold them to unrealistic expectations, but I always figured Jedi weren't supposed to be whiny or arrogant.

It just doesn't make sense to me...we're supposed to believe that Anakin was once a good person, but I saw nothing of him in Episode II to back that up.
Hehe, now my nerdiness shows through...

Technically, he is not yet a Jedi. He is merely a Padawan. He has not mastered his emotions in the way Jedi are expected. Check out the Clone Wars cartoon series if you want to see how he is actually knighted and becomes a Jedi and then his final test following the knighting.
Surprisingly, this cartoon series fills in a lot of the story and shows a lot of Anakin's good side too. Definitely shows a lot of the back-story to Palpatine.

While all of my examples contained lines delivered by Han, I didn't mean to imply he was necessary to make the prequels enjoyable. What they need, though, is the snappy, witty banter that the originals had. The dialogue in episodes I and II was so wooden and boring, not at all like the first three films.
How about the lines in Episode II, spoken by C-3PO?

His head was being dragged along by R2-D2, and he quips 'What a drag.'

And another time, just as R2 is preparing to reattach his head, he sighs 'I'm quite beside myself'.

Laden with cheese... tell me you didn't at least grin, and give your head a little shake.

Lucas and the prequils are a joke.
Why? Cause you didn't understand them?

Cause GL makes so much money off them?

Episode III is getting good reviews so far:

link linkity

Of course this won't change the minds of the people who have already made up their mind to hate the show.

Or those that will like it even if Lucas films yhis son's turd for an hour and a half. I think it looks like it could be pretty good.
Lucas would never film his son's turd. He's developed a new special effect that allows him to digitaly create turd that ALMOST looks like a real turd.

No, those lines were just bad cheese.

C-3PO and R2-D2 had some pretty good lines in the original trilogy though.

Look, I'm not trying to hate the prequels. Believe me, I'm a died-in-the-wool Star Wars fanboy. I was at midnight showings for both Episodes I and II (I wasn't that much of a geek to wear a costume, though). I really, really wanted them to be good, but sadly they weren't.

I'm still holding out hope for Revenge of the Sith, but I no longer give Lucas the benefit of the doubt.

Yep, and then 20 years later he'd make a film about the meal that kid ate that led to the creation of the turd that ended up in the toilet.

I'm glad the Jedi are getting slaughtered. They make the universe so boring that I could fall asleep through two Star Wars films.

Lucas was smart to have them all dead except for the fatherly Obi Wan and the interesting Yoda in the original trilogy.

That's the problem with the prequels...everything is a big political fight between so many factions, it makes your head spin in confusion with everybody talking so stoically or repressed they all sound like Vulcans...and when you have one character being "bad" or speaking out of turn, he's critisized so much and his style is cramped so much, no wonder he rebels against his constricting, rule-bound Jedi "parents" and turns to the dark side like so many teenagers. I've read the script and I'll avoid spoiling but it really isn't that great, profound, or exciting. There's really only 3 areas the plot centers on it revolves around a few set pieces. What will make the film great is seeing the extravagance of it all and the grandness of the action.

The original Star Wars was great because it was all about the seedy yet adventurous nature of people when they find a purpose admist the coldness of the refreshingly evil Empire.

I hope the TV series will pick up on that feeling again.
