Yes, what I meant was Aviva (condo policy) might look to subrogate against the unit owner if there was a case for it. Correct or irrelevant?

Like the structure of the building? Yes, technically they could but it is very rare they do from what I understand. Unless there is money 'left over' from taking care of everyone in the building for their contents and living expenses.

He was a renter who didn't have insurance, so I believe they said it wasn't worth pursuing him. I believe the owner of the unit had to pay their deductible for the building insurance (8-10k). This was briefly mentioned at a condo board meeting, so I could be completely wrong on that amount.
