I did a search on Ebay for each card, and found that most cards that I thought might be worth anything were only $1 each.
Guy Lafleur's rookie card, which I thought was the tip of the iceberg, would only fetch around $100-$200 if that.
Ebay, as mentioned earlier, is definitely the way to see what your stuff is worth

The market for players who aren't the best 2-3 players of their generation is really really poor. There seems to be an exception for cards that are graded at 10. Considering the way they packaged the cards back in the day, most would come with a minor defect. So even if you take care of the cards perfectly, they're rarely a 10.
My Brett Hull rookie card is virtually worthless. The guy is 3rd all time in goals!

My mom would get me the bubblegum opeechee cards when I was in elementary. I plastic wrapped each card and even bought a fire proof safe. My pride possession was my Kent nilsson card and Willie Plett's rookie card.
I also had gretzky's and Messier's rookie cards which subsequently ended up on my bike spokes. Not the smartest thing to do financially but what's a flames fan to do? /sigh

If anyone is looking for a good place to "card shop" check out the monthly shows at the South Fish Creek complex as there was a bunch of tables set up this weekend and I was able to find a couple Brodie UD rookie cards where he is wearing #66. I have yet to buy a card with selling in mind and many cards become worthless but they are fun to collect here and there....

Guy LaFleur - 1971 O-Pee-Chee PSA 10 $12,300
Fresh off his monumental 130 goal season in the Quebec Junior League, LaFleur made his rookie card debut on the great 1971 OPC set. An absolute perfect grade rookie fetched more than $12,000 to a serious collector. The Blonde Devil had about as many misadventures off the ice as great plays on the ice, but remains a fan favorite. The Hall of Fame came calling for Guy in 1988.

I have shoeboxes full of cards from the early 90s. I know they're not worth much of anything, but I think they'll be fun to crack open in 30-40 years and share with grandchildren.

Are there regular meetings where collectors can trade their doubles?

I have an entire Binder full of Mark Messier cards. From the Oilers to Vancouver to Rangers. All sorts and I have no idea as to what they woudl be worth. He was my idol growing up and its just good to have the cards but would still be nice to know the value of them. Any thought out there as to what the "good" cards would be

The older checklist cards tend to have decent value just because so many of them were written on (i.e. used for their intended purpose). Nobody really thought there would be any value to the cards 40 years later.
