Wing Commander hooked me on PC games. My friend had it and I would find every excuse to go there and play it.

I bought Wing Commander 3 and a Gravis joystick as part of a package at Doppler Computer Store (remember DTV? heh). Soo much time wasted that summer!

No, I have no idea what Doppler or DTV was. I only remember Compucentre at Market Mall and playing the 7th Guest and Dune on their PCs because it was free compared to going to Wizard's Castle.

Ocarina of Time was the game that brought me out of my dark ages--a time when I only played games every few months, which began a few years after my interest in the SNES dried up. I played Mario 64, but not with the same keen interest and obsession as Ocarina.

OT: I think DTV was some sort of tv program sponsored by Doppler that was about computers. My memory's a little hazy for that since I was pretty young back then, but for some reason, in my head, the host looks like Mike Toth. I could be totally out to lunch though. I think there was a Doppler computer near Chinook mall if I'm not mistaken.
Back on topic.
The game that got me hooked was Super Mario Bros and Kung Fu on the NES.
I followed those up with the Legend of Zelda, one of the greatest NES games of all time. I was such a hardcore Zelda fan at the time that I even finished the Adventures of Link, even though that game to me wasn't that much fun. It was frustrating to get through, and nowhere near as fun as the first Zelda game as it was so radically different (in a bad way).

Ironically it was for a long time, until I read a book with the name spelled in this fashion (I believe it was the Bourne series?).
I prefer this one as it draws out the bible thumpers who tell me that I chose an internet persona based on an evil man. Though, I really did like Kain in the game.

My first venture into videogaming was the Intellivision. Only games I can remember back then were Dungeons & Dragons (which scared the hell outta me back then), Burger Time, and I think Tron.
I'd say I really didn't get hooked until I got a Sega Genesis for Christmas. The early NHL games from EA and Street Fighter II Championship Edition is what finally sold me though.

I loved Sim Tower. I used to play that all the time, trying to build my 5 star hotel / office tower.

Why on a game for the NES does the bottom left hand corner say you can't use it in an NES?

It really did excel at that. Also loved how you could create dogfights and battles with aircraft from the 3 wars featured in the game.

One interesting flaw in the game's AI was that the enemy fighters had a hard deck of maybe 500 feet (presumably to keep the AI from flying them into the ground) - if you kept your aircraft below that, and nice and slow approaching stall speed, they'd circle around going too quickly and hitting 500 feet and then climbing again to recover altitude, which meant you could basically putter along knocking them down one at a time.
I played way too much Yeager.

European "Mattel" and "NES" Versions
In the UK, Italy and Australia which share the PAL A region, two versions of the NES were released; the "Mattel Version" and "NES Version".[38] When the NES was first released in those countries, it was distributed by Mattel and Nintendo decided to use a lockout chip specific to those countries, different from the chip used in other European countries. When Nintendo took over European distribution in 1990, they produced consoles that were then labeled "NES Version", therefore the only differences between the two are the text on the front flap.
