Sub-genre? Its not a subgenre. The insane drops and transformer like bass pretty much puts it in its own genre. Alot of people like it and alot of people dont, it needs its own genre to be identified. Half the trolling is arguing over metal. If this thread were inside the Electronic Music thread people actually looking for dubstep gotta search through pages and pages of Electronic and the several sub-genres it comes with.

Dubstep deserves its own thread free of arguing and trolling about how old people are and how this doesnt suit there taste of music.

So what exactly is a drop, and what qualifies it as "Insane".

Finally, what qualities of bass make it "Transformer like"? Are we talking Optimus Prime, or like 2200-110V?

Dude, post in another music thread. If each subgenre of a music style had it's own thread there would be hundreds of threads to wade through. I have seen no arging over metal, perhaps you were in the electro-disco-muppet-step thread. This thread did have some cool drum chatter, which IMHO is saving this thread.

Dubstep does deserve a thread, but why here? Go dance with your friends at the club.

Im sorry you dont see the difference between Electronic and Dubstep. Pretty sure the older crowd can tell the difference....

Also if the Mod team doesnt want this thread they would merge it themselves, maybe try complaining to them since your Bitchpants McCrabby.

I think CP has needed a music subforum for a long time. Mods don't seem to think so though.

Actually, it's still electronic music. Why can't the distinctive 4 on the floor beats of house music merit it's own thread? Why can't the sidechaining of progressive trance merit it's own thread? Why hasn't anyone made a breaks thread, since it's drumlines are unlike anything you hear elsewhere in electronic music. It's because they don't really need to be separate.

I don't see why we can't discuss the merits of dubstep in a thread about dubstep.

Im sure there are lots of people that Listen to Electronic but avoid Dubstep. One of my Uncles is rather hip and listens to alot of Electronic, throw in some Woomp Woomp and hes outta there. Since this is a Flames Forum one could assume that the average age is over 30 meaning there would be lots of people that arnt into it that might otherwise be into Electronic. Besides I made this thread to find other dubstep music specifically and it would be hard to find new Dubstep in a thread full of other genres.

Besides who cares if its another music thread, if there wasnt interest the thread would die down to page 2 and it wouldnt matter.

Why do people get so bent out of shape about threads? Is your life that chaotic that you can't handle an extra line of text on CP? Jesus. People act like it's someone's underpants on their floor... most new mice these days have a scroll wheel. Use it. Or better yet, just calm down and enjoy the discussion. Maybe you'll learn something.

As for dubstep I was never much of a fan until I spent some time hangin out with a chap by the name of Aaron Patey back in Halifax. Kid is a sick producer/DJ and if there is any justice in the universe he will be famous soon.

turn this one up loud. really kicks in around :55

And this kid is only 23 or something.

I guess I'll throw in something a little more mainstream as well. Really dig this remix, though I am not really a fan of skrillex. Drum programming is insane.

EDIT: I disliked the first 7 videos in this thread, yet consider myself a fan of the genre, so to those who "couldn't make it through", neither could I. Luckily the genre is varied enough that there may be other things you like. Maybe even an entire thread of options. Actually, those first two posts worth of tracks aren't really even dubsteppy if you ask me, which nobody did. The vocals make me cringe and they are pretty housey beats. Throwing a few whomps in there so they can call it dub and get in on the fad. Meh, as usual the real quality artists will push and expand the genre and make it amazing and others will ride their coattails to some quick $$. Skrillex is more dubsteppy... but still very top 40/housey... and he uses the same kits and samples over and over again it seems. Other people's remixes of his songs are usually better than his originals.... see above.

This is really good, but I think that only because it's quite different from the generic dubstep most people here.

In an attempt to be less confrontational, here are some less...dubsteppy dubstep I happen to have heard on my iPod. Perhaps better for us unwashed masses!

I used to be with it,
but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it,
and what's 'it' seems weird and scary!

I'm a huge fan of Skrillex - can someone help me understand why so many people don't like him on here? Or at least that's the impression I'm getting.

I love the remix Mau5 did of raise your weapon.

Can't catch youtube from work, but I'm going to check these out tonight. Between this thread and the electronica suggestions thread I'm kind of excited to check out deadmaus.

Love Skrillex, have seen him twice in Victoria and once in Vancouver. All awesome shows!

Where you see riding the Coattails I see the genre going Mainstream. The Electronic/House mixes with dnb is what I find appealing where traditional dubstep like Rusko I find unappealing. Because of this the people that like Traditional Dubstep complain and create a new sub-genre of Dub to represent this new mainstream version of itself.
