Engineers registered with APEGGA can get a discount at Esso. As such, this is my preference for gas, but I won't go out of my way to find an Esso. Convenience is the main thing.

Yes, it is as simple as flashing the ring at the counter. Sometimes it helps if I say "Suck on this b***h, I'm an engineer, give me my discount!". Other times, I have to flash the Fleet Card that I got applying through APEGGA.

Correct, it is easy to deduce when talking to an engineer... even easier to detect when you are talking to a prick...
Please understand that the above post was made without having any idea if you are in fact a prick, I don't even know you. It is just my "cool" engineering way of making a joke.

I fill up my minivan/car at Petro Canada (company credit card) but whenever I have to pay for it, I go to Husky's (getting credit on my AMA membership) or I go to Petro and use my .05 cents per liter discount card.

I was just over in Europe and a fill-up costs a small fortune. I just looked at the last receipt from Austria and diesel cost €1.36/litre which works out to about C$1.86/litre. In England it was even worse at around £1.40/litre which is an astonishing C$2.19/litre. And the Canadian dollar is quite strong at the moment as well, otherwise it would have been even worse.
Obviously there are a lot of factors that influence the price, and I'm not trying to debate that, but there was definitely a little bit of pain at the pump for me, being used to Alberta fuel prices.

A combo of Shell, Superstore, Costco.
Depends where I am when I need gas. Shell for Airmiles, Superstore for Superbucks, Costco for Costco Amex rebate - although I only fill up at Costco when going to Edmonton as sadly the NE Costco is the most convenient for me but alas it has no gas station.

Nah - we can still whine. I knew that fuel prices over there were pretty horrid, but it isn't until you convert it into Canadian that you realize just how bad they are.
At least in Alberta we can take some comfort that high fuel prices are generally beneficial for the economy here, but that doesn't ease the immediate pain at the pumps.

That was my view when I bought a car this spring. Gas could go to $3.00/L and regardless of what I drive and for how many km's I would be richer in the grand scheme of things anyway. I bought a V8 engine, just because I could see the day when a V8 full size sedan that isn't a expensvie luxary/sports car won't exist due to lack of popular demand.
As for keeping OT. I typically fill up at Shell, in part because they are right around the corner, and also because my BMO master card gives me 3% off
my purchases there. 3% worked out worse than Safeway's 3.5 cents per litre at prices below $1.17 / L, but with prices above and with airmiles, I'm doing alright going to Shell.

I fill up at Co-op partly because they're a customer of mine, but also for the patronage cheque every February.

Price is $1.17 everywhere in Red Deer except Costco. I saved 13 cents a litre @ $1.04 today. The lineup was huge, a good 45 minute wait. So worth it.
I realize how sad that is when the lowest price is $1.04.
They are putting more ethanol in the gas though, up to about 10%...don't know if that is good or bad, but that's how it is.

Really interesting! How much of a discount are we talking about here with the fleet card? Does it beat the costco prices?
