RIP Nate, loved G-Funk Classic's Vol. 1 & 2 and Music and Me. Most people only appreciated him for his hooks but I personally really enjoyed his solo work, guy had a hell of a smooth voice and flow.

His main talent was sampling good music. Almost all his tracks are carbon copy sampling mixes of other songs from the 70s-early 80s - often from middle age white jazz musicians lol.
He sure was great at picking out obscure and not so obscure tracks from a great era of music though and turning them into great hip-hop hooks 20 years later.
That's what makes me like his tracks more than most modern hip-hop because his sampling retains the soul of the original tracks.
Also love how the people who came in to try and crap on an artist/genre of music are getting called out for it! The double and triple Google results were hilarious!
This is a massive loss to music. If Nate Dogg sung your hook, good chance you went platinum and your song was awesome. RIP

Does he even rank with any (of an untold number) of musicians who wrote their own original material and succeeded in selling millions of albums, becoming household names in the process?

Music is an art, and the art's appeal will always be in the eye (or ear) of the beholder.
If you have the time to come down from your perch, we'd be so humbled if you could direct us to true musicians.
Colin Campbell's been involved professionally in hockey for even longer than your 25 years. Doesn't mean his opinion is correct.
Maybe it's an inferiority complex or the fact that Nate Dogg was a musician for less than your 25 years and achieved the kind of acclaim that you are slowly starting to realize is unattainable for yourself.

Who said he was "so important"? He was a musician that some of us enjoyed, he has now died at a young age and we're expressing our condolences and remembering his work. Exactly what is your problem with that?

Again, how is this at all relevent to this thread? We aren't allow to discuss the passing of a musician unless their careers measure up with rock and roll legends? Just in case you're forgetting, this is an RIP thread, not one proclaiming Nate Dogg as music's crown jewel.

Just because Keith Richards is hella famous doesn't mean that Nate Dogg wasn't exceptionally talented at what he did and deserving of a little respect from fellow "musicians" on the day he passes away. He contributed a lot to an art from you yourself also contribute to... don't be such a snob. It's not "Nuff said", it's a stupid thing to say.

And FYI. All those people you've named, minus Bryan Adams. Nate Dogg has worked with all of them, most uncredited. He is and always will be a well respected artist in the industry.
For me, I'll remember a true master of his craft. A professional, and one of the best voices I can remember. He filled dance floors, sold millions of records and became a household name doing what he loved to do.
Gonna miss his hooks. Wish I could've had him sing one on my tracks.
