When I go through US security, I almost always feel as though I'm being forced to prove my innocence. I understand why they've taken a particular stance, but to me the requirements to prove my innocence (the shoes, the pat downs, the scans, putting up with the attitude.....ALL OF IT) simply isn't worth it.

And again with your crappy comprehension. Where does this idea of removing shoes become the lynchpin to your argument. I haven't ONCE mentioned shoes until now. Go ahead, check. Not once. I've been CLEARLY talking about the experience of going through security the whole time.

If YOU think it is worthwhile, YOU can continue to participate. I don't think you're any better or any worse for doing so.

And for the third time, let me explain this to you again as well......Just because you can't grasp or appreciate another person's perspective, doesn't give you carte blanche to mock them and demean their point of view. It's not my fault you can't grasp another person's point of view.

I've never had an issue with US customs, or Canadian customs for that matter. Sometimes they're chatty, sometimes they ask me about my work on an immigration level, sometimes they ask me about my work on a personal interest level, sometimes they don't say a word. The only time I've ever been held up was due to paperwork mixups, both times the guys were polite to me while bitching about the guy at the previous entry point for not entering things properly. I'm sure you can catch somebody on a bad day, but that's no different than any other interaction.

This will really suck for those of us who live near the border. I have a post office box in the States. I don't but, many of my friends buy fuel across the border.

I bet you if this goes through it will hurt American border towns. There will be less quick trips across for a fuel, dairy, or a few drinks. So much for growing revenue by growing the economy.

Of course, people in Buffalo/Niagara Falls among other places are used to paying through the nose with the bridge tolls.

It will affect entry to the USA only by air or boat.

Horrible idea. With it already being cheaper to go to all inclusive resort in Mexico rather than stay in Florida or California this is crazy.

If you haven't done anything why should you feel pressured...

And flying domestically I go through all of the same security measures... only difference being removing my shoes and customs... I've been patted down a couple times, even asked for the female officer once... got a laugh from everyone... I guess for me it falls under the category of who cares... there is far more pressing things to worry about then whether or not I have to take my shoes off or get patted down at a security check point...

And it's $5... if you travel, don't go out for dinner one night, and you save $10... now you can travel twice.

This is just the beginning for the US going tax/fee crazy. The US being trillions and trillions in debt and having no way out means fees and taxes. It is only a matter of time before a VAT tax gets the nod from US govt.

We should be very thankful we are in Canada and have done relatively excellent over the last 2-3 years economically.

Makes sense to me. If you want to come to America, help pay down the debt (which in turn helps the rest of the world thanks to globalization). Much better then laying it solely on the shoulders of the American people.

If it's been implemented with other countries minus Canada, Mexico and some Carribean islands so it was due to happen for all. That's how these taxes eventually go.

I don't think that $5.50 will make a dent on US travel. We pay more silly taxes travelling within Canada with airport taxes etc.
