I remember the last miracle drug (Zyban)that was suppossed to help me quit smoking. That was awesome having dreams about hanging myself, shooting myself in the head and going through mood swings, all while being completely un approachable.

Yup the cravings for smoking really vanished once I had taken the proper dosage for the first few days. But they were replaced with really bad dark thoughts. I remember picking up a butcher knife and thinking about how it would be ok if I cut my wrists with it, that nobody would give a crap and it wouldn't matter if it took them 2 weeks to find my body because I would be free of it.

I went to the doctor and he took my perscription back.

Just another excuse, suck it up princess, everybody quits smoking.

It's your choice how far you want to take it, before you quit, Everyone quits, the question is, how much of your health do you want preserved ?

Highly recommend Alan Carr's book Easy Way to Stop Smoking.

Easy read. I still pick it up from time to time when I get the rare craving.

The irony of a guy who's handle is "Pinner," and avatar a psychadeleic smiley-face giving out advice about "smoking" is so overwhelming...

Whatever, go ahead and kill yourself slowly and stink up yourself and gross everyone out, it's your life.

I had quit about 7 years ago, and stayed quit for 4 years. One problem, I got totally hooked on nicorette. So then I tried Zyban, and I was having dreams that would have put a Clive Barker film to shame. Full on demonic, dismemberment, torture getting skinned alive stuff. Brutally, terrifying, nightmares. Smoking and dying a premature death was better than having those dreams every night. That is the only reason I have been hesitant about champix. I have seriously cut back since I started working out again. Down to about 5 a day, with nicorette support. But now, as happened to me a few years back, I find I am craving the gum more than the smokes. Nicotine is frikkin evil.

I'm so glad I grew during a time when smoking was for losers.

21 days for you to get rid of the physical addiction. The physiological addiction I will let you know when I figure it out, I am currently at almost 4 years and I still get a craving when I am super stressed.

I'm not a smoker myself, but I've watched (and supported) both my father and my brother in quitting.

With dad, it was hard. He'd smoked for most of his life. I asked him when he felt he had "officially" quit, and he replied "When I could do the things I used to do while smoking, without it. Going out with my friends was the hardest part of that. All of them smoked. They understood, but the temptation was very hard. But I managed, somehow."

With my brother, he quit because he became a father. He promised the mother that he would not smoke in or around the house, and it's kind of grown from there. After being asked, he says that he's not "officially" quit. That he still gets cravings, and still wants to have a smoke, and may start up again when his son is 'of age'.

I'm coming up to a year without a cigarette. I used Champix. I was a little leery because there were mind issues with a coworker and stomach issues with my sister-in-law. My sister-in-law stopped taking it because she just barfed it up, but my co-worker talked to her pharmacist and they just cut the pills in half. Still worked fine and the creepy dreams stopped. I had neither issue, but my kids said I was a little owly for a while - nothing serious. I don't have any cravings now. And it doesn't bother me to be around my husband when he lights up...well except that he's often stinky now.

I'm so happy I quit. It's like a huge weight is lifted off your shoulders. I can walk up and down all the stairs at the 'dome without wheezing! I can sit through an entire movie without fidgeting. I can relax and enjoy coffee and conversation after a nice meal in a restaurant without jumping up and heading outside. I never freeze my ass off outside the local arena. I'm not ashamed to have company in my vehicle or in my home because they smell. I can kiss my Grandma on the cheek without making her nose curl.

I knew I was done the moment I figured all this out. When this feeling of freedom was something I wouldn't trade for anything.

I quit alcohol one night and will never touch anything more than a sip again after I realized that I was wishing that I would rather be dead than in that much throbbing migraine-like pain again.

I guess it helps that I'm practically allergic to the stuff and in addition to the intense migraine jackhammer in my head, I puked 7 times that night night and was a shaking/shivering mess - after only two pints of Guiness.

I've never been a smoker but I think about smoking quite a bit, especially when in foreign countries as it's pretty smoker unfriendly in Calgary - but I never actually do it because I'm too cheap and lazy to actually bother getting any.

Also, I bought a pack of Luckies once in Europe because sometimes it was just really nice to have a cigarette and a coffee and sit in a French cafe all day long. Then and some guy came up asking for a cigarette. After I gave him one, he pulled a knife and mugged me. Luckies went in the trash in anger. Unluckiest things ever. End of social/casual smoking forever. F U Lucky Strikes!
