I'm no astrophysicist, but my understanding is that it is still quite difficult to predict the direction and magnitude of solar flares. Also, the chance of a direct solar flare hit is really quite small.

I don't think a direct hit is what they are even worried about, but they forecast from a cycle and apparently it should be very strong this time around, not to kill the planet or even close but possibly could knock down grids, cell service, satellites...etc.

It is not going to directly hit an area and kill people or anything like that, it will just cause absolute hell on technology.
