As much as Wells contract was terrible, he was one of the top 10 offensive OFers in the league last year
The Angels had money to spend missing out on the big FA's! This trade makes them better

I haven't heard any confirmed reports or from a reliable source, but seems to be the rumour going around the internet that Drabek could be involved.

Sources: Wells and cash to #Angels, Napoli and Rivera to #BlueJays. #MLB
The question now becomes, how much money did the Jays send the Angels way?

Hoping that there isn't much dollar wise heading to Anaheim, although I wouldn't be shocked if it was just a straight across trade considering what Crawford got.

Which wells will they get though? The 2008 or 2010 version? Or the 2009 or 2007? It's just a wildcard with him. Plus, Rivera is a career .280 hitter which is decent, and has some power.

Another zinger from DGB.

Love how the Wells trade includes a Napoli physical, as if Jays would walk away. Doctor: "He has no legs." Jays: "Yeah, we're OK with that."

Man, I'm off the wall with this. I hope it isn't much money going the other way, but I'm shocked anyone would touch this contract.

So to keep this roller coaster going Shi David (baseball writer for the Canadian post) tweets:
Just heard Angels may not be getting any money from Jays in Wells deal. Not cast in stone, but pointing that way.

Source confirms to Fox Sports no cash included in the LAA/TOR 2 for 1 trade!!!!
Which makes this even more remarkable is even without bringing $$$ into the equation, this is still a deal that you could make the case the Jays won.

Did the Angels hire Darryl Sutter as GM?
What? Too soon?

Curious timing as I just saw on the ticker that Manny Ramirez signed with the Rays, as well as Johnny Damon. Both players were rumoured to the Jays, especially Ramirez who singled them out as a team he wanted to play for. This trade must have been the first domino to fall and now these players (or at least ramirez) could go elsewhere. Just my opinion.

Wow, this is a bad trade for the Angels.... Wells was a great outfielder but he has slown down over the years... I am shocked a team would take that contract.....
To get a player of note back from the Angels is also surprising.....

So for someone that isn't that knowledgeable when it comes to baseball, what do the two players that the Jays picked up have to offer?

To me this is a trade both teams win.
Rivera will have people going nuts by the all star game, and in a bad way! He oinly hits HR when you are down 8-1 in the last inning! Wait till you see him try and hit a breaking ball. He is only included for salary. Napoli is under control for 2 years, so a nice 6-7 hitter and catcher insurance.
For Anahiem, they have money to burn. Wells instantly ungrades their team, and with Oakland and Texas both having good offseasons (Relatively) they had to do something.
They surrendered no prospects, and got a CF who was one of the best Sluggers last season and can "sorta" play good D still.
It is amazing we were able to ditch 80 million. But Wells is a very very good player when healthy, and has been nothing but class act to Toronto. I truely hope he gets a great round of applause when he is here next.

Napoli has about the production John Buck had last year...little less average, little more power. Rivera is solid, nothing special. but from what understand has just 1 year left on his contract and his bat does have some pop...hits for .280 average which is pretty good.

Napoli has good power and can Catch and play first base. The other guy is most likely a bench guy / outfielder... who is a UFA after this season,

I see no way how this trade can be a win for both teams... Wells has probably the worst contract in baseball... its amazing the Angels made the trade with no cash in return...
As for Rivera who cares what he will do, that fellow is on his last year of a 3 year deal... I would bet he was thrown in balance the salary some what this year
The key to this deal is getting rid of the contract, and getting Napoli....
