loving it. Expected Lallana somewhere in there, but Welbeck, Sterling and Sturridge certainly provide A LOT of pace up front. Can't wait for the game.
sure hope that Costa Rica can hold on to their lead vs Uruguay. Would help England a lot.

It doesn't directly translate, but every world cup when they are deciding how many spots to allocate they look at a few factors and rankings/performance of a feds teams is pretty much number 1.
Right now Concacaf is on the fence, they have 3 spots and a 0.5 that they have to play New Zealand for. They've been lobbying for a while that they should have 4 permanently and another confed should lose a 0.5 and have to play NZ...
A couple concacaf teams going on a run would really put them in a strong spot for 2018

in last years CL match between United and Real, Ferguson had Welbeck in there specifically to chase and shut down Xabi Alonso. Wonder if Uncle Roy is smart enough to give him the same task vs Pirlo ... just a thought.

So it's only relevant to Canada if we can land that 4th spot yet not beat Oceania.

This coming from someone who normally actively cheers against England.

I think I'd rather Jones at the back than Cahill but that's a minor complaint.

Nice goal.
Biggest upset is really that this is not a fluke, Costa Rica has just been better.

3-1. Upset but not the crazy shock the british announcers who don't know anything about soccer outside uefa consider it. But but but they have guys we know from english soccer, how can they lose to guys we never heard of.
CAF is for sure in the crosshairs but I think UEFA is going to lose a whole spot first... they will have 14 teams at the next world cup, every other fed in the world gets 18. They and conmebol get the best results and they deserve more but that is almost half the field, way too many.
