I remember when the Coyotes un-retired Bobby Hull's #9 (retired by the Jets and kept retired after they moved) so Brett could wear it after the lockout.
Then, Brett played 5 games for the Coyotes and retired.

Crazy thought: Can he just decide not to participate in the NHL draft and sign with the Flames as a walk on?
Edit: Although, after typing that out, something tells me we'd see this a lot if it was possible. Rich teams spending $$$ to get kids to sign with them outside the draft.

The NHL doesn't have an option where players opt in and out of the draft. They are either eligible or not. It's why the Habs were able to draft Logan Mailloux even though he had said he was opting out of the draft .

It’d be way easier to be drafted, not sign with whoever drafted him and then I doubt any team would spend their next years pick on him. He’d then become a UFA.

How about the Rangers draft him and then he forces a trade to Calgary?

Jarome partly owns the Kamloops Blazers. Doubt he would have much influence on the Rockets.
I think the Rockets just like the player.

Hope it doesn't put more pressure on the kid. Looks like Iggy is a bit of a helicopter parent.

You've gotta think it is just a matter of time before they acquire Joe Iginla next. My understanding is that the parents live in Kelowna still. Though I am a bit surprised he already signed with the Oil Kings as that took away family's leverage there, maybe his grandparents are still there.

I think if the old man wanted his boy closer to home, he could influence hockey circles in Kelowna.

Remember, the family hung out in Massachusetts for a few years when the daughter was playing prep school hockey.
