I thought he might land here but it felt like a trade we'd overpay for somehow. Probably for the best

GM's talk, GM's listen, they don't hang up just because of a NTC.

You're not bothering to talk return if it's clear the player won't waive.

Nah, but all it costs is the gaslighting they're trying to pull by accusing others of ####posting when it's literally all they do

How is it clear the player won't waive?
My guess is the manager would work out a deal before approaching a player. Now obviously all deals don't happen the same way but it makes more sense to ask a guy to waive when the trade is almost done.
Hanging up just because of a NTC would be foolish IMO.

Hamonic rumours were out there but all of a sudden dried up, almost as if the rumoured deal was taken off the table.

The lack of term for either Brodie or Hamonic makes me think Flames would need to add.
If you're only getting a guy for a year, may as well wait to the deadline so to your point Hamonic is a little more appealing to the Leafs because it actually gives them some relief. Of course makes Flames situation worse.

Just a min. Working to confirm if Dubas has Kadri's agent's number.

I dont think the leafs necessarily need to dump anymore salary. More than anything they need to shift some money from forwards to defense...this deal makes a ton of sense for both teams...but the human/contract factor is one of the many reasons it's hard to make good hockey trades and what Tre had to overcome last year to make the Carolina deal happen.

Isn't Marner going to take like $18 million a year to sign or something like that?

I’d love to have Kadri on the Flames. As I’m sure any other player on the roster including Gio would feel the same. His grit and skill is needed on this team.
However it’s no surprise if Calgary is on the NTC list. Rest assured if any player has a NTC with 5 or more teams, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa are most likely on it, as well as Buffalo/Carolina. I have a friends/contacts in the league and this is absolutely the norm for lists. Nothing surprising here. It is what it is.
It sucks but what can one do. Heck if I was good enough to have a NT list I’d have the same teams on it and I’m a Flames fan first. But I still would have those teams above on my no trade cities.
Tre can try and sell Cgy to him and his agent, so who knows.

I'll bet it still happens. He'll come here and be a beast and love it here.

I’d like a 2nd line of Tkachuk Kadri Ferland.

I think that if he nixed it, they probably already made overtures to no avail, unfortunately.
I'd love to be proved wrong, however, because I think its about as equal a trade as both teams need, and I like our chances with Kadri in the lineup.

Great thing about adding Kadri too would mean Bennett could play with Backlund without having to get 2nd line minutes, which would be great for Sam to take the next step

I agree. And as much as I like Backlund, it opens up the possibility to move his contract going forward, if a young guy starts to emerge.

Even if Calgary was on his NTC, it doesn't mean you don't have a chance at changing his mind.
Sometimes players put contending teams on their list at the deadline if they want to make it harder to be traded since the buyers are always the contenders.
A trade in the offseason could change what teams are on his list.

This is ideal!
Rebalances the team with Backs and Bennett on a checking third line...
