@BlackArcher
Did they just send you a letter in the mail? I sent mine in around the end of June and was thinking of giving them a call this week to see if I messed something up.

You must be a resident. It used to be three years but I think it's less now.

You get an e-mail saying the status has changed. You sign in and hope to see pre-approved, then it brings up the schedule for interview.
If you did it late June, you probably have a 2-3 weeks to go yet before you need to worry.

This program is great. I just used it as part of the Global Entry into the US, and it worked great. Just as it would entering Canada. They merged the programs approximately a year ago, and its great if your nexus, because you get benefits of both programs.
Anyone considering it, I would definitely give it a thumbs up again.

So I did my interview after bumping up my appointment over the weekend. It was pretty busy. I waited almost 30 mins past my designated time before they were able to see me.
Word of advice with the interview questions. Don't be cute in your responses. Just answer the question straight. The guy prior to me was trying to be cute and he got grilled, from where he was born to all the countries he's been to, in detail. I on the other hand was done my interview in 2 mins lol.

I will echo the last post. I got grilled about why my wife and son were not applying by the Canadian. I couldn't imagine what questions I would have got had I answered what I was really thinking. The Americans were rather relaxed.

I felt the questions were no different than the ones I get when crossing a border or going through airport customs. General confirmation questions regarding your address, job, reason for obtaining the nexus, expected travel frequency and where to. A few questions thrown in to see if they can stump you, like they ask if your birth date is September when it's March. Pay attention to the question and answer directly.
Of course it may depend what they find in your background check. And as usual, the Canadian was more thorough than the chill American.
My appointment was on time though. Seemed like there was lots of people waiting but I was out 10 minutes after I arrived.

This a thousand times this.
Answer the questions they ask nothing more. Do not be cute, humorous or anything along these lines.
Traveling a fair bit and watching people at customs, security, or checkpoints trying to "lighten the mood" is aggravating and does not help move things along. Even my father does this and it bugs the crap out of me.
Be serious for two minutes and be a comedian or jester or whatever once you are though the checkpoint.

So, I applied for the card on August 6 and the website told me a day or two later that my application was under review.
Yesterday I get an email telling me my status has changed. I log into the website and I have been approved to move to the interview stage.
My options (I live in Sherwood Park)? October 12 in Sweetgrass, February 18 in Calgary, Edmonton - No Dates Available.
Booked in Calgary.
Conclusion: Edmonton is No Good.

Edmonton is still no good.

If you fancy a drive, interview down in sweetgrass. Can interview almost immediately.
You'll just need to goto the nexus office at the airport to do you eye scan, as they can't do it down there.
Edit - just noticed sweetgrass was mentioned... That's where I did mine, was a drive but interview was relaxed and more importantly I could schedule it for a week out instead of 3-6 months

If you check the Nexus site once or twice a day you can usually find a slot where someone has moved/cancelled their appointment. I got lucky and grabbed one in under a week a few years back.

Had my interview yesterday and asked the about renewal.
Same as the first time. Apply online wait for interview. Just make sure you apply before it expires so you can continue to use your card until you get a new one.
If anyone is wondering the interview process is super easy, verify the information on you application, ask if you are crimminal and if this was for busniess or pleasure. The 4 of use were done in under 30 min.

So what is the current process of getting a Nexus card? Apply online first, and wait? How long does it typically take?
