Hope that Kuznetsov has some chemistry with Huberdeau and/or Kuzmenko. Then, trade Kuzmenko and Kuznetsov at the deadline next season.
Won't the Flames have like 20+ MM in cap space next season.
|
Think they are going to use that capspace. They need a center and probably a dman

We aren’t claiming Kuznetsov. We will take assets for taking his contract and giving him a platform to showcase himself before next years deadline. I only do it for a 1st.

He also sent a slap shot into the stands in 2012 when he lost to Sweden in the WJHC. We were on the other side, thankfully.

Great. So let's claim Kuznetsov off waivers with no sweetener and complete the 2nd dumbest move in 5 years.
The Flames can own all the dumb moves!

No interest in a claim but I would take the contract back if it sweetens the return on Hanifin if it is true the Caps are interested

That, or it's Hershey.

They will still pay the full salary and have the cap hit then.

Or a centre at no acquisition cost to make up for selling one with a first.

It was also at a different time (flat cap)

I think the negative publicity will keep teams away. Whether he earned or deserves a fresh start, it’s an expensive gamble to make.

He is absolutely terrible
Weaponize that cap space in another way
|
Kuznetsov turning his game around is worth at least a 1st and 2nd round pick at the 2025 deadline or sooner

Which is unlikely to happen and still warrants compensation for any team acquiring him.

Buying him out would cost 6 million in cash and take a 3.8 cap hit next year and 2 the following year, so it's a possibility, but a long shot. Since he's entered the player assistance program and cleared it, I don't think they can terminate it unless he relapsed and it got caught on video again.

Needs to come with an asset. Not worth doing for free.

I'd be okay with the Flames getting him with 50% retention for FC. Or get a 1st for taking on the full caphit.
Then we can have "shirts off for Kuznetsov".

Hear me out: Huby + Hanifin for Kuznetsov
I would drive the car myself.
