Could they just install a sheet of Ice on the decks of one of those 'SHIELD' Heli-Carriers and just traipse about the continent playing their games in the air?

Man of those Heli-Carriers werent 100% fictional that'd be awesome.

What about a really huge Zeppelin with a sheet of ice suspended beneath it on cables?

Because as stupid and insane those ideas are they are still in the same stupid conversation as playing in a local College's 5,000 person arena.

It'd be like the Flames playing a season at Father David Bauer.

The Fetisov Arena in Vladivostok where 'Admiral Vladivostok' play holds 5,500 and thats in a City of ~500,000 people in the middle of nowhere.

My guess any player that has a trade clause won’t even consider lifting it to go play at a 5000 seat arena on campus .

Kessel is gone after this year anyway. Has zero impact on him.

I think it sounds a lot worse than it actually will be. Make no mistake, it'll be unusual ... but if the Tempe proposal is approved this summer, I don't think it'll be perceived as much stranger than when the Lightning played at the Trop and the Raptors played at the Skydome. Temporary.

There are guys like Stralman who are rumoured to have interest in re-signing there, even with this plan being public ... at the end of the day, I doubt these guys will care much as long as they're getting paid.

I think the best thing they can do is push the atmosphere angle of the tiny arena and try to have fun with it.

At least it will be fuller than a larger arena and might help give the perception of it being a loud place to play.

Maybe they’re optimistic, but if those were the numbers here in a similar situation, they’d probably sell out every game. I think the balance should be somewhere between 60-80% of those numbers, but I wouldn’t be shocked if those prices stay firm.
PHX experts could refine this, but I think it's more like moving from Deerfoot Mall (64 Ave NE) to the Grey Eagle Casino, after spending a few years at the MRU rink.

Might just be me, but charging $89 for your cheapest ticket to watch a crappy team play doesn't seem like a great strategy to attract fans.

I wonder if they might sell standing room tickets?

But like ... how many NHL arenas sell seats in the 13th row of the lower bowl for less than $89?

The only people who will pay that are fans of the visiting side and that will make for an outright nutso environment. I for one hope to be a part of the flames party at a tiny venue. It’ll be like seeing the stones at the palomino.

But that's just the point, other NHL teams have fans that go to games.

The new motto of "Our arena may be worse, but our prices sure suck." really can't be the best one, can it?

Well, that's why I asked early on in the thread how many STHs they have. They're pulling probably around 12k a game in Glendale but who knows how many of those are comps/resales/single game tickets.

But what if they have 4k STHs already?

Yeah I presume they can round up 5000 fans to pay NHL prices. If they can’t, we’ll then it’s even a bigger joke than it has been.

If they can't, I presume they're in Quebec for 2023–24. Although if they have the same owners and the Tempe deal goes through, who knows if they'll want to leave ... it's baffling and fascinating at the same time.

Temporary, yes. But also the first years of brand new franchises, not years 26-28.

The Skydome also allowed them to draw 34000+ fans for certain Raptors games...

The Raps were actually 3rd and 8th (out of 29) in league attendance their first two years.

There are hundreds of lower bowl seats for tomorrow night's game available for $89-99.

Those 4k probably won't be stoked that the arena is moving 25 miles away...roughly Bridlewood to Balzac.

If I’m an owner I’m asking why the league isn’t exploring relocation for this team.

Another team in Toronto would be a cash cow I think. You can’t tell me the league wouldn’t make way more money with this team in a different market. It’s pretty silly.

The prices are probably a bit "out there" but in a 5,000 seat arena, in the part of the area that you know you need to be in in order to be successful, if you can't sell the tickets at these prices then you need to get out (or sell). They need to at least try to see if it's a viable business.

Not sure I have a problem with the low end but 15k? The best flames tickets don’t cost that.
