Is this another case of a guy who can't stop talking about the army or war but of course never joined the military and neither did his sons? And this expectation of immigrants having to embrace every aspect of the country they move to seems a bit one-sided, is the same judgement held for people who move from the West to other parts of the world?

Given what we know about concussions and the seriousness of them, his views are not just out of touch but part of the dangerous part of hockey culture that needs to be removed.
He's an idiotic, hate filled man that should have been taken off the air 20 years ago.

These aren’t really opinion pieces anymore.
This is spouting archaic junk that is not a good influence on promoting safety, and is counter to a building empire of facts. It’s blissful ignorance, at best.

I guess I am one of "you people" cause I don't wear a poppy. The GD things don't stay on, I just drop money in the bucket and walk away.
As for his comments, people of his generation are, for the most part, all like that. They were brought up that way. In there 70s, 80s, & 90s you're not going to change them.
I have an uncle (in law) that is 70 and talks the same way. I really like him, he's a smart man, he knows a lot of stuff and when he talks like that I challenge him on it. I tell him how he's wrong and he gets it at the moment but still talks that way. He's not going to change and I don't hold it against him, he's a product of his enviroment, he was raised that way. Do I think he's a racist? No. Does he have some racist ideas? Yes, a lot of people do though.
So sometimes I am a warrior and say something and sometimes I am Ron McLean and sit and listen.

Take a small piece of elastic (from an elastic band) and use it as a stopper. Just push the pin through it, and it will stay in place. You can do this under your clothing where it isn't visible. Works like a charm.

Is it really considered debatable at this point that head and brain issues in athletes causes significant mental health problems and early health decline?
I’m not going to do the research for you, but from where I sit, there are a great number of case studies that have happened in front of our eyes in real time, and quite frankly, seems pretty logical and obvious.
i remember back in in the 1980s where cherry made some remarks that european hockey players like jari kurri/mats naslund were taking away "jobs" from good ol' hard, working canadian "boys".....
I support the Legion and give money every year, as well as attending events there, but I rarely wear a poppy. And I don't care if you wear one or not. Show your respect through actions, not symbols.
I don't know if Cherry's message is racist because I found it too incoherent to parse what he was saying. He might know a lot about hockey but often comes across as an obtuse blowhard on everything else.

I don't get the outrage really. Cherry's career on HNIC is based on providing strong personal opinions that you may or may not agree with. Whether he's calling out Burke for not having enough Ontario boys and too many Americans to the Leafs roster, calling out the CHL for letting Europeans play in the league, or hating on Russian players in general it's always been his schick and we all know that he's always been a strong supporter of veterans so it's his view and that's what he gets paid for.
