I'm surprised that ya'll didn't now about this already. She's been a known fundamentalist weirdo for a long time.
I'd wondered if her weirdo past would come up or not in this, or if it'd matter or not.

I had never heard of her before the Mike Richards announcement and that she was the special events host. I'd never seen any of her guest hosting episodes. Didn't even know she was on TV before that.

explain.

I understood she got her PhD in Neuroscience from UCLA.
that seems pretty legit to me, no matter what her beliefs are.

It means pretty much any idiot can get a PhD. It might be a difficult degree with lots of hard work but there's no rationality or intelligence test.

Having a university degree is not a measure of smarts.

No that's not quite what I'm saying. It's not that just "any idiot" can get a PhD. in neuroscience. I'd challenge any of you to try and do it. It's not a joke degree at all and you have to earn it. She's not a stupid person by any measure, and neither is Mercola.

What I'm saying is that not all smart people are rational. Intelligence and reason are not always the same thing, and often because scientists can be super focused on learning facts, formulas, and testing methods, they aren't always focused on a classical education in reason and argumentation.

Also, the problem with PhD's in general is that they get so hyper-focused on their tiny fraction of academia that they can miss out on any knowledge in the vast sea of what other smart people say. Mercola is one of those guys that is so focused on natural health practices that he has simply not learned enough (either intentionally or otherwise) about the effectiveness of traditional health practices. Specialists are myopic to the worst degree.

Basically, even though it occurs less often in highly educated people, we are all prone to our own biases and belief systems. It's hard to unlearn these because they are usually fundamental to how we see the world, so they persist throughout the education process unless someone comes along to really knock a stupid belief down, and that also doesn't account for how strong confirmation bias can be in some people.

Anyways...back on topic. Is Ken Jennings looking better all the time? He is Mormon you know...lots to talk about with that.

No matter who you pick, there will be a problem of some sort to unearth. It's the age we live in. I just don't care about any of this stuff to be honest. It's not going to affect my enjoyment of a television show. She's not a monster, she just has some weird views.

This is an example of why I do well on some episodes of Jeopardy! and why I would finish laughably last on other episodes. As I am not a trivia player, my general knowledge is vastly different from other people's general knowledge. It's shocking to me that you would not have heard of her before Jeopardy!. She was Blossom from the TV show Blossom, which has 114 episodes over 5 seasons. She was on 203 out of the 280 episodes of The Big Bang Theory starting with the last episode in season 3. Not counting reruns, I have seen her in 317 episodes, plus probably the one Doogie Howser, MD episode she was in.

If there was a Jeopardy! category about her, I likely would have done well. However, I couldn't tell you anything about Levar Burton besides Reading Rainbow. I don't watch anything that starts with "Star", so I didn't know he was in Star Trek. I still had heard of him though.

Yeah I’ve seen blossom but when I was like 8 years old. Same with Dougie Howser +/- a couple years. Never seen a single episode of Big Bang Theory.

Really didn't make sense to keep him on as EP.

Suzanne Prete, executive vice president of business and strategy at "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune," emailed staff the news on Tuesday.

"We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks," Prete wrote. "That clearly has not happened."

Former Jeopardy! champ James Holzhauer cheers Mike Richards' firing: 'THE WITCH IS DEAD!'

https://canoe.com/entertainment/tele...-witch-is-dead

After Richards was dropped for past offensive comments, Holzhauer, who went on a 32-game winning streak in 2019, took a swipe at his unceremonious departure.

“Do I think Mike Richards’ podcast comments were appropriate for polite society? No,” Holzhauer tweeted. “But did he deserve the benefit of the doubt for the job he did running Jeopardy!? Also no.”

His dislike of Richards was clearly personal as he added in a follow-up post, “Some judged Mike Richards solely on his podcast comments and formed a negative opinion, but I judged him by the way he treated people backstage at Jeopardy! and formed a much stronger negative opinion.”

But Richards’ selection to take over from the beloved Trebek was a point of contention even before the sexist podcast clips were unearthed. According to the New York Times, Richards, who had long dreamed of hosting his own game show, was instrumental in choosing which appearances by each prospective host was screened for focus groups.

"hey are you Mike Richards, the guy who ruined his career by repeatedly shouting racial epitaphs?"

"oh no, I'm the Mike Richards who ruined his career by being a dirtbag, verbally abusing staff and being accused of sexually harrassing women on the Price is Right."

"ew, you're giving the n-word guy a bad name you POS."

Not the Mike Richards who tried bringing drugs over international borders?

Man...'Mike Richards' is a pretty soiled name.

When they say "end of the year", do they mean the calendar year 2021 or the tv season, which will end in June or July 2022?

At this point, it seems like they're just doing this as a placeholder until Fox cancels her crappy sitcom and they can give the job to her fulltime.
