Looks like Reddit is now removing the mods from bigger subreddits that continued to protest by opening up their subreddits to NSFW content.

The whole NSFW everywhere thing was neat... Then underage #### started filtering in and that was less neat.
I get and appreciate what the mods were going for. Let it go a bit too far.
Reddit likely using that as a blanket reason for binning all of them.

This seems mutually bungled. The Apollo guy is completely whiny, and was happy to piggy back on a bunch of stuff Reddit was providing for free. The fact he admits it could have been severely optimized vs. other Reddit apps, but didn't consider taking action until the limits were announced kind of proves Reddit's point here.
On the other hand, Reddit did this in a very rushed, heavy handed and poorly communicated manner, then doubled down on the stupidity when people unsurprisingly lashed out.

Losing the good reddit mobile apps is annoying, but if they ever kill off old.reddit.com on the desktop then I'll be done with it for good. The new UI is pure trash

I don't really see the Apollo dev as all that whiny. He's just calling them out on their BS.
First they tell him in January that there will be no changes to the API in 2023. Then it's, ok we're going to make changes and start charging, but it will be "based in reality". To finally, a ridiculous pricing structure with almost no time to prep for that was only meant to push out 3rd party apps.

FYI for any users of third party reddit apps on Android, RedReader was granted a non-commercial exemption and won't have to shut down next week like RIF and Apollo. Played around with it a bit and it's pretty close to RIF in features (no ads, compact view, no "suggestions"), so at least there will still be one alternative to the terrible official app

Fricken perma banned for calling somebody the R-word this morning. Twelve-year-old account gone. Kind of annoying. I hate the mods on that site so much and don't give a #### if they're unhappy. I hope they all quit and it can just be the wild west Internet of 20 years ago.
