Bless them, but this one won't be pretty. 5-1 Caps. Ovechkin with 5 points. Ben Street with our goal. I shed manly tears into my scotch glass. There's nobody here to hold me. Morale declines rapidly. Sad.

Correct, Maher in the morning on Fan960 confirmed the Coaches are still working with Joe Colborne to teach him the Flames system (i.e. lots of Video).
I guess they would like Joe to watch a game first...
Peter's thoughts were, he may play tomorrow night in Columbas

I like this approach. It maintains the message of having to earn your spot. Colborne coming in didn't automatically bump Street out of the lineup, he'll have to learn the system and in some good practices before that happens (which he may have already done, and may get into the game tomorrow - but we'll see).

Unfortunately I'm of the belief that we're going to get destroyed in the first game of the season. Everyone needs a game to get their jitters out and get a feel for season competition, especially with all the new faces on the team.
5-1 Caps, Glencross gets the cap on the Caps.

I don't think Hartley has the "art" to start a fight

very happy that there is inter-league play, and we get to see the league's best, not just the conference best.
i look forward to seeing:
- Monahan in a real game day situation.
- Baertchi's response given the management's comments of late
- If Ramo can keep the flames in it
- if the rest of the team comes out playing hard
the score is somewhat immaterial after that..

I think my indifference to the outcome is what saddens me the most. I know they were hollow hopes for playoffs, but at least I had that. I'm not a patient man to be honest

if some of the bullet points become consistent positives, i think we can expect a positive outcome on the scoreboard more often than all the doom and gloom experts are predicting (ie. being a bottom 8 team rather than a bottom 3).
i think the youth and excitement that comes from that will get us thru the first quarter or half of the season. at some point though, this will definitely be tougher to watch and be excited about.... hopefully by that time we are all getting excited about the trade deadline and how that evolves the rebuild

I've got a Flames sweater on for the first time (not including the Iggy trade, Kipper's retirement or a family outing) since the lockout. I'm excited for some hockey.

Hope the game goes to the longest shoot out ever so that Canuck fans miss out on the entire first period of their game and their lame pre game ceremony.
However knowing TSN, they'd probably cut to the Canucks game.

I just want to watch Monahan's first NHL game.
Washington has already played so they have a big advantage there. First game of the season is always a shock. Objectively, one would expect Rämö to get lit up, which leads me to think that the game thread might be a place to avoid tonight. If it's a decent game, I'm pretty impressed.

Very excited to see this team, more so than the last 5 seasons. This may be a frustrating team to watch at times, but we will be watching some good hockey and I can't wait to see what this team can do!
