The press for the Leafs this year so far has been disgustingly gushing. They may end up back near the top of my hate list if this keeps up (they were off it for a long time while they sucked so hard).
Anyway, hopefully the Leafs will be reading their own press and drinking their own kool-aid since every team that has failed to take the Flames seriously so far this year has paid for it big time in the 1st period (Washington now twice, even though they ought to have known better the second time).

Guaranteed win night for the Flames. The Leafs haven't won in Calgary in over a decade.
5-3 Flames.

Fond memories of Flames Laughs games. This picture always makes me chuckle, I was in the section next to this and missed most of the action.

This is pretty much how the Flames have positioned themselves, but I guess three years is longer than I envisioned.
Is Liles decent enough to plug a spot for the next few years if the Flames got a 2nd and a solid prospect as well?
$3.8 isn't that bad a contract if he's better than the current bottom pairing for the next 30 months.

Flames do have both their compliance buyouts remaining. If the sweetener is indeed good enough to help out the Leafs, I would assume the Flames give Liles ample time to prove that he isn't too bad for the rest of the contract. If he is, they can buy him out. I would do it for 2nds.
Feaster had to spend a 2nd to get rid of Kotalik who was paid 3. Liles isn't as overpaid as Kotalik, but I don't think a single 2nd would be enough.

I'll take Liles if Matt Finn is included and they can keep their 2nd round pick. The leafs are deep at defence including on their farm team so try can afford to give up a guy like Matt Finn.

Flames are indeed high on Matt Finn (or at least were at the draft, and no reason to believe that has changed).

Tough test for the flames.

Top 3? really?
Chicago, Boston, Kings, Pitt, Sharks I would all consider better than the Leafs. Add the Ducks and perhaps the Canucks as well. They're a good team, but not top 3, not even top 5.

All the other lines have chemistry and Backlund was never able to develop any with the wingers.
I think as soon as Colborne or Monahan look like they aren't playing well, Backlund will get moved up right away.

My assumption is they know what they have with Backlund but need to find out where Colborne can play.

the best was when Darcy Tucker had a chance to score in the dying seconds to tie the game but whiffed so badly, he laid on the ice pretending to be injured for the next 5 minutes. hahahaha.
