Niederreiter knows Berra so he might be one of the few people in the league who already has the book on him.

I feel bad for Sven. Right now, he's doing everything he can - but any small mistake (and in Sven's case, not scoring is a "mistake"), gets him benched. Hard to build confidence that way.
Coaches have their favourites though...easy to see Hartley loves Colborne on the ice and dislikes Backlund. He loves Jackman/McGrattan and dislikes Sven.
It's maddening, but it seems to be the way it is.

I don't understand the shock at Sven being benched. He hasn't looked very good to me. Gives up the puck easily.

Tough game. Wild are like an enthusiasm dissipater.
Probably will be like the Coyotes game. Hard to watch.

Hartley suggesting When Baertschi sits it's like an emergency in Calgary. Coach adds it's part of learning the game for Sven. #Flames
Roger Millions@RogMillions19m
Hartley talked individually to Baertschi for close to 10 mins on the ice at the end of practice. #Flames

For the record Baertschi was unavailable to the media after #Flames skate.

It's more shock that Jackman is in to be honest.

It's probably because the players playing ahead of him in the line-up don't deserve it. Jackman and McGrattan have done absolutely zilch other than take bad penalties.
People argue that "Sven shouldn't play on the 4th line", well - if the 4th line has Jackman and McGrattan on it - then no, he shouldn't (and neither should Backlund for that matter).
But if the 4th line is, say Baertschi - Backlund - Bouma, then that's a line that may actually help us win hockey games. Then can push the tempo. Hartley could get them playing a very simple North-South game.
...instead, we get Jackman and McGrattan while Sven sits in the stands.

Yeah, I get it at this point. Quite a few times you'll see him try to stickhandle his way into the zone only to lose possession.
I wonder if Hartley's also doing this as a way to let Backlund play on Monahans wing or something.

Chad Billins informed before dinner last night, that he would play. Hartley says he plays like Kris Russell. #Flames

Its at least the 4th Def. Partner for Shane O Brien. When asked how hard that is..all he could say. " it's crazy, huh". #Flames

I like Sven, but IMO there's too many plays that die on his stick. He'll make a sick pass or dangle once in a while, but he needs to get dirty, drive the net, shoot more. I think fans better start getting used to him being in and out of the lineup all season and accept it.

Awesome! I want to see Billins.
I don't care what happens to Bart anymore re: whether he sits or not. Not sure why its so hard for some Euro players to understand the three zone game the Flames want them to play. They only seem to be able to do one. Maybe the Flames just don't know how to coach Euro kids?
Bart's number are not good enough to make up for the mistakes he makes.
Backlund is playing a great 3-4C role, but should be able to compete for the 1-2C on this team.
Very strange. I hope the Flames stop drafting Europeans. IMO its better to let them learn somewhere else and then bring them in once they are established NHLers: i.e. Hudler.

I'm just not sure what the coach hopes to accomplish sitting Sven and keeping Jackman in the lineup. Plus, Scoreface was better last game, but I don't see him sitting for his idiotic back passes and failure to come back defensively, previously.
I guess the moral is, if you are a vet, you can make mistakes and continue to play. If you are a rookie, you make mistakes and sit on the sidelines. Not sure that's the way this should play out.

Our record with Baertschi or Backlund being scratched is 0-2.. Will it be 0-3 after this game?

I've only seen Baertschi improve his defensive game since the start of the season. The coaches can say whatever they want (they didn't say it was his defence this time), but he's not being sat because of that.
He's playing nervous and afraid to make mistakes, so when he has the puck he's trying to make quick plays to other players instead of slowing the game down a bit, which is how he's had success in the past. I guess the coaches want him to play a simpler game.
Personally, the perfect way to fix this is to put him on the PP where he has more time to make plays and doesn't have to force things that aren't available.
But the coaches prefer scratching him I guess.
If you don't want to draft Europeans, then you're missing out on players like OEL, Datsyuk, Koivu, etc... This should have nothing to do with nationality.
