This is punishing the players the most. Absolutely ridiculous.

So I looked at all the remaining games
SG 0
SP 4
Brooks 5
Okotoks 3
Blackfalds 3
Another thought, who is going to compensate the 11 teams for the home dates missed gate revenue?

Why don't those teams who are leaving make the departure annoucement AFTER the season is done?
Also, since they are essentially being kicked out of AJHL, no one is preventing them to organize games against each other, or have "friendlies" against teams in other leagues.

None of the teams announced anything about leaving. The BCHL jumped the gun and put out a release.

I’m positive this was not meant to be made public but was leaked by a source last Friday. The BCHL had no choice but to release it the following day. People in the league knew teams were leaving after the season as the official announcement wasn't supposed to come out until May.
Rumours of this happening started circulating in 2021. It was discussed at the Board Of Governors meeting in the past. And they act like it’s a shock. The AJHL is a joke. Continue to trot sham franchises like Olds who aren't even competitive.
What I'm getting out of the statement the league released is the 5 can play amongst themselves, but can't play the rest of the league.

What will happen in the playoffs? I assume they won't be invited to play?

Yeah, I didn’t know if I should say anything last week (assuming this is where the confusion is), but the teams haven’t actually signed on to the BCHL. It doesn’t mean they’re not going to, and weren’t going to. Just that they haven’t yet. And they’re in good standing with the league and Hockey Canada. This is why Hockey Canada has been conspicuously quiet here, because they know nothing’s signed.
So, basically they’re being suspended (or whatever) based on what they’re probably doing after the season ends? Not sure how that works.

AJ looking worse and worse here.
I look at college down in the states, Div 1 and Div 3, teams move conferences all the time, the leagues dont punish them for it. Not an exact comparison but close enough.

Paul Seaton (Bandits president) to the Brooks Bulletin:
“The information wasn’t supposed to be out until May 1".
"Nothing has been signed yet but an agreement has been reached and our board has agreed to it unanimously".

Thant's not really true...lots of time there are tons of controversy, including litigation, over teams moving conferences.

There may be more going on here than we are currently aware of., including lots of legal involved.
All I know for certain is that the idiot from BCHL who prematurely put out that press has certainly been fired. It is my understanding info was not supposed to be made public until May 1.
Heh. I see I missed this whole last page, where everything has already been said.

I must be in the minority here, as I don't really think the AJ looks as bad as the 5 teams and the BCHL that likely knew what would happen to the kids on their teams.

And I would add that ncaa moves are not entirely analogous as that’s all under the same ultimate sanctioned body. These teams are leaving the system entirely, so I think there is a difference. That said both leagues look terrible right now.

That's true. If, say, a dozen high profile college teams like Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, etc. decided to start their own league outside the entire NCAA system and it was announced mid-season, I bet they'd act the same way. Not to say it's the right way to act, but I could see it.
