Let's be real here.. Columbus hangs up the phone at the suggestion of Kent Johnson.
No team is trading a 22 year old former top five pick in the midst of their breakout season...Let alone for a player who is a decade older, has obvious character issues and isn't even producing at a significantly better rate.
That is nothing short of a pipedream for Canucks fans.

What else would Vancouver add that would get them Johnson now that he has broken out? That whole article looks like it was written by a Canuck's homer.
Jarvis, Necas, Nemec, Mercer etc etc as suggested returns

For Petey.. maybe? But that might even be a stretch.
Definitely not for Miller alone.

Backlund's play driving is still strong but his finishing abilities - i.e. goals and primary assists - are average and maybe what we see declining.

No way we see Backlund moved during his contract unless he asks for a trade.

Way to miss the point. Urban Alberta subsidizes rural Alberta. Should that stop?

Yeah, these are optimistic delusional fan proposals.
Isn't more likely that this deal follows a cap dump template? VAN holds no cards here. They have an emergency outbound roster move involving a player with a NTC. Any team he waives for, would hold all the cards.
If my GM obtained JT Miller for anything more than spare bits I'd question his abilities.
Yes, I know JT is a good player. But circumstances and character questions make that almost irrelevant.

No chance of getting Jarvis or Necas for Miller. Perhaps Nemec or Mercer.

Nemec would be a shocker he was the 2nd overall pick from 2.5 years ago. I would be shocked to see a top prospect like that traded for a 32 year old who has worn out his welcome on multiple teams in the past.

Sounds like the offers coming Vancouver's way are super low which isn't a surprise given everyone knows Vancouver wants to make the move now to salvage this year since they are clearly in their win now window. It'll be interesting to see if Allvin/Rutherford can still get a return like Conroy did for Lindholm in a similar situation where teams knew Conroy wanted to move him and the player wanted out, or if they'll end up losing the eventual trade.
I can't remember if it was also a Dhaliwal or a different insider that mentioned recently how Canucks ownership/management are still pretty pissed about how badly the Lindholm trade went. I'm guessing they feel they really, really need to hit their next big trade out of the park to make up for the fleecing by the Flames.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Miller will not return a king's ransom. They want that, trade Pettersson.

Everybody knows the situation they are in, nobody is going to offer fair value. I love it.

Yeah. They probably feel they need to get a return that’s better that what the flames got for Lindholm. I would think one of these teams could at least match that trade:
Lindholm return was:
Kuzmenko
Hunter Brzustewicz
Joni Jurmo
1st round pick
4th round pick
So that’s a top 4 organizational prospect (Brzustewicz), a B-level prospect (Jurmo), a 1st round pick, a 4th round pick and a salary dump to make the money work.
If it’s New York, let’s say something like this in comparison:
Zibanejad
EJ Emery
Raoul Boilard
2025 1st round pick (top 10 protected)
2025 conditional 4th round pick (becomes a 3rd round pick if the Rangers make the conference finals)
That’s structuring the trade around what the Flames got for Lindholm. But Zibenejad is a more valuable player than Kuzmenko I think - although it might be evened out by how long his contract is. Kuzmenko only had a year left. The first round pick has a better chance to be higher than the flames pick from Vancouver because the Rangers are set to pick 13th overall right now.
The Canucks might want a completely different structure for their trade though.

Doesn't cost a lot would be Rooney for a right shot C. Pretty sure we need to keep Kuzmenko to hit the cap floor depending on the rental.

RHS centers upcoming FA's:
Luke Kunin
Jack Roslovic
Craig Smith
Nik Bjugstadt
Mason Appleton
Claude Giroux
Adam Gaudette
Jake Evans
Patrick Brown
That's just to name a few.
A week ago I suggested Luke Kunin as an off season target but I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames made a move for him either.
