Especially when it's a near universal rejection of the gear grinder. It usually results in the person doubling down despite ample evidence to the contrary, which I always find fascinating.

As someone who goes through tons of plastic bags for cat litter and dog poop for walks, whenever I'm in Canada, and there's no plastic bags, I resort to buying small garbage bags for cat litter.
So not only am I not reusing grocery bags, but I'm having to buy new plastic bags, with thicker plastic, to get the job done.

But in the Midwest, you can still take as many grocery bags as you want for free.

In Calgary you can put cat liter in the compost, so I use compostable bags for that. Paper are fine, too.

What do you think we move to next? We have started on this single use plastic thing. Its obviously to start with something small and not very intrusive but it has to be headed somewhere. When probably 25% of residential traffic in my neighborhood is Amazon vans, there are clearly much bigger fish to fry?

I would think in the grocery story they will try and get rid of the plastics there as well. Bags of apples, etc.

One that drives me crazy is windshield wiper fluid. My car blasts that stuff out like a teenage boy who found a swank. Its basically a thimble of methanol (or whatever) and 4 litres of water. Why can't we buy a unit/dispenser you slap on the wall in your garage, squirt some concentrate into a jug and fill with water. Can you use water in the summer? Corrosion issues?

There has to have a big tax on amazon packaging at some point. We'd be farting around with this crappy compost bag and spilling it on the 27 amazon boxes per week we have piled in our garage.

Consumer bulk pricing incentives on fast food. i.e. Chinese mall place.
$10.99 for rice and 1 item.
$12.50 for giant bucket of 7 items, bowl of salt(soup).

Holy crap, I just found these:

^Those tablets will freeze in the winter. But this recipe:

https://diynatural.com/homemade-wind...-washer-fluid/

of 8 oz isopropyl alcohol, and those tablets might make a good mix. Or explode, that's the fun of mixing chemicals!

Not exactly what you are looking for, but I think this is a great idea https://www.stationlaveglace.ca/en/home

Sadly, the liability of some dim bulb trying to fill their gas tank with it will ensure it never catches on.

$1.20 a litre? The 4L jugs are often available for under $3.00. If you can't maker it cheaper, what's the point? How many jugs of energy/waste does that huge unit save compared to the energy/material used to make it? It's a good idea, but that thing is overkill. I'd have a 1000l tote with a gravity fed nozzle and offer a flat rate $2 washer tank fill ups.

how much washer fluid do you guys go thru?? i might fill the reservoir in my truck once every two years.
which reminds me of a windshield wiper fluid gear grinder... why can't they make the windshield wiper fluid reservoir a little bigger than the standard 4L jug of fluid you find everywhere. nothing like having to save a 90% empty jug of washer fluid for (in my case) almost 2 years!

No, because it would be 99.99999999% water.

I think you could make the nozzle too big to fit in the gas tank slot so strugglers couldn't get it in their while still fitting in the washer fluid tank.

OK, my bad - I missed the price. Yeah that could definitely be cheaper, my thought was I like the reduction in plastic waste.

That's the problem with some of these things, they start out seeming like a good idea, but by the end of it you are buying custom filling jugs from a single source supplier, the machine is broken half the time, and it costs you more money and headache than it is worth.

I figure the finger will get better so don't go to the doctor for a few weeks, I go to doctor and he said I should have had it splinted right away and that I likely permanently screwed it or else surgery. Appointment for ultrasound.

100% my own fault and before anyone has suggestions:
  • I didn't need to drive to work
I didn't need to park in the underground parkade and could have saved money

There's a station in the TD Core parkade that does a similar concept, but does it for free...

Some of us uhh... used to go there with empty containers and fill those up along with the vehicle washer fluid. For the price of parking, you could get a ton of washer fluid. During the pandemic, I think I could get in there for free at times and top up.

I think they shut it down at some point. Not sure if that station is back up and running yet.
