95% of the time players sign where the money is. Even Tavares who everyone brings up - got $11m/year. Its not like he took a discount to go to Toronto.
Maybe 1% want to go home.
And then the other 4% is loyalty to original team and/or going somewhere to win a trophy at the end of a career.

Heck, it might be even less than that, if he only plays here for few years and then works out a trade to go home.

Agreed, from drafting Bennett to signing Brouwer, Neal and now losing Johnny he has destroyed what could’ve been a great rebuild. He is very incompetent and needs to be canned immediately.

Supposedly he actually did, but it was still too much money for him.

Yeah. Tavares did the Islanders dirty. Johnny is figuring out what’s best for him and his wife/family

Yeah, that's not going to happen.

Plus, losing Johnny is not going to be on Treliving. And drafting Bennett? First, I'm not sure how much Treliving got to be in on that draft having just come from another org sometimes there are restrictions. In any event, Bennett was the consensus pick, and in fact some figured it was a steal. You wanted Dal Colle or Haydn Fleury instead?

And the fact that he has 10 million bucks a year and can pay for the family to stay here whenver they want.

As an American living in Canada I feel my next opinion is qualified. If i had to choose between raising children in the US vs Canada I choose Canada 100% of the time. Theres a lot of reasons but #1 is there is a chance to be caught in a mass shooting every time you leave your house there. And I
love guns and shooting them. I grew up around them. I spent lots of time shooting targets. But now, it seems like every day there’s another mass shooting in the states. No thanks
