Nobody is bumping Monahan smart ass. A strong 2c for us would be a 1c on other teams. Keep drinking Koolaid all of you though if you think somebody on that same level as him would come for just Brodie on an expiring contract.

Except Philly is stacked with young D. I can't see them wanting another one.

I honestly don't think we're looking at Simmonds anymore. He would cost at least our 1st and that just seems like a non-starter for a rental, based on Connie's comments.
I think we look at a guy like Gudas or Hagg. Intimidating depth defensemen who can still play defense.

They wanted Dougie Hamilton at the draft.

I don't like the idea of getting a rental, and I also don't like the idea of acquiring another defenseman who will likely be lost in an expansion draft.
Simmonds is too slow and the game has clearly passed him by.
The Flyers have no one over 26 years old that makes much sense. I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames wanted Radko Gudas, but again, I don't like it.

What might the market value for Nyquist as a rental be? I wouldn't mind if the Flames looked at bringing him in a little closer to the deadline to bring us the scoring depth that the Neal signing was supposed to for the playoffs. Czarnik (or less ideally Mangiapane) and a mid pick (3rd or 4th) might be enough to open talks with Detroit if there aren't many buyers.

Philly eh? Mikael Vorobyov would be one I would look at.
Would be a great bottom six insurance marker.

When they fired Hextall there were comments regarding the rebuild not progressing fast enough. They might make some dumb short-term focused moves. Hard to forecast though.

I don't know if the Flames are interested in Simmonds, but if they are, I am against them doing so.
(1) The cost would be high. If the Flames would need to trade the 2019 1st round pick; the 2020 1st or 2nd round picks; one of their young defencemen; Dillon Dube; or Tyler Parsons, I would rather they stick with what they have.
(2) The Flames probably couldn't re-sign Simmonds without sending significant money to Philadelphia. I think the options would be Frolik, Stone, and Neal. The problem with trading Frolik is I think you could argue Frolik is a better player. The problem with trading Stone is he is on IR. The problem with Neal is the Flyers would almost certainly have zero interest in that contract.
(3) I don't think the Flames have a spot on RW for Simmonds unless they move a RW to centre (Lindholm) and breaking up Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm is probably a bad idea.
(4) The numbers suggest Simmonds' play has gone downhill. However, I haven't watched the Flyers play much.
(5) Simmonds' play is likely to continue going downhill since he is already over 30.

Simmonds would not be a good pickup, I agree.
but he wont cost a first and top prospect. Id say a 2nd and/or a B level prospect

What do people think to the possibility of picking up Simmonds, that guy from Philly?

Re low interest
You don’t think other teams would want him for the same reasons the Flames would want him?
Or
That the Flames would have low interest for the same reasons other teams have low interest.
If you were one of the worst teams in the league with no cap issues, would you trade Frolik for a Czarnik type and draft pick ?

I really wasn't trying to be smart. I was just trying to state my opinion and the reasons for it. Would you mind explaining why my opinion and/or reasons were foolish?

He was referring to me ^ - alas, you'd expect a 30-something to be able to detect even a hint of sarcasm and not get offended by a simple joke over the internet, but I digress, we are all wrong sometimes.

I definitely understand the reluctance to go out and get Simmonds based on what we have seen from Neal, and the potential price. However there is not doubt in my opinion that he would have a large impact on this team WHEN we go deep in the playoffs. If Simmonds could be had for the right price than I will be all right if BT makes the move because the team will be better than it is now.
