Have you ever played shogi (Japanese chess)? There's a piece called the kyōsha, or lance. It can only move straight forwards.
Clearly McDavid and Draisaitl are lances. They can't move towards their own end of the ice, unless, I suppose, another player tows them.

Can’t blame them giving up on a backcheck. They know it’s going in the net 90% of the time.
Draisaitl with one of the lamest dives of all time tonight, and poor Kane looked to be having some wrist/forearm difficulties on the bench so he probably won’t be holding a poker hand for a while.
