I think there's been quite a few games in the last 2-3 weeks where he's been (at least) the best forward out there.

I agree, Horvat is an excellent player and makes any team better.

But he's a rental, and an exceptionally expensive one at that.

His cost would likely be in the range of a 1st round pick and a very good prospect. Many teams will be in the bidding for him.

For sure. Being selected for the shootout also seems to indicate that the coaches agreed.

Dube has been solid, and needs to keep it up. Consistency has been the issue.

The Flames’ part of a recent future projection of NHL franchises for 25-25 sounds bang on to me. This is why, if the Flames’ aren’t solidly in the playoffs by the deadline, they need to ship valuable players for futures while those players have value.

“Rank: 15

Second opinion: Even if the Flames don’t have the star power they previously had with Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk, there is a belief that their roster should be good enough to contend in the playoffs. But if this team can’t deliver, the future will look a lot bleaker, with a prospect cupboard that needs restocking and contracts that aren’t getting any easier to manage with increased salaries and little to no room to maneuver. — Julian McKenzie”

Friedman: Canucks not interested in rebuild. Interested in change up.
Only untouchable is Pettersson
Would take a tremendous offer for them to move Hughes
Canucks don't want to pay Horvat the $56 million they gave to Miller, but Horvat's play has put him over that.

Flyers have made JVR available and willing to eat half his cap hit.

I'm sure Treliving has exhausted options, but not making a trade from D to acquire a RW (Kylington or no Kylington) is getting close to the same category as Iginla never having a Center IMO.

"Best D in the league on paper", we need players that can score and help offensively.

You better off selling off anything of value on this team.

Aren't we fixing to dress half the Wranglers' defense tonight?

Speaking out both sides of their mouth there. Nonsense. Friedman should think it through sometimes before he repeats team talking points.
One guy is untouchable - no not the guy we just gave a 56 million dollar contract to. then why'd you sign him to that horrible deal?

Just because you re-sign a guy doesn't automatically mean he's untouchable.
Friedman shares what he is hearing.

Five players on waivers today: Craig Smith (BOS), Austin Czarnik (DET), Jason Demers (just signed by EDM), Nikita Soshnikov (NYI), and Danila Zhuravlyov (COL). The last two are having their contracts terminated. Craig Smith is obviously the big name here, but he carries a 3.1M cap hit.

Obviously, Flames record without Tanev is much worse

I believe Kylington was more vital to the team then we talk about, the team lacks speed and clean fast break outs, him and Tanev were our best pairing more often then they weren’t and I think the team really misses that pairing and assume this season would look a lot different with Kylington here, I hope what ever he is going threw is cleaned up soon because we need him to help this team look not so slow all the time.

not to mention, assets and cap... Horvat is looking for, like 9 million a year?

Calgary doesn't have the cap space nor the assets to pry a guy like that loose, especially in division, where Vancouver would be looking for a premium from a rival.

30pts in 31 games this year is pretty good. If the Flames could find that type of production from a 12th overall pick I'd be ecstatic.

Leading scorer on the second best team in the league. Necas is probably half decent.

I like Horvat but his defensive game is not good, so he's worse than Lindholm for me. I do think the Canucks are dumb to be looking to move him out though. He has flaws but still a good player overall.
