Shiva Baby is a great comedy/drama about a college kid who is a sugar babe going to a Shiva with her family and runs into her sugar daddy and her ex there. It's both hilarious at times and anxiety inducing (think Mother! ) at other times. It's a short 75 minute film that I had a blast with, highly recommend it.
I really loved that movie. Directed by Emma Seligman, who also did Bottoms, which is also great.
I just watched Todd Haynes’s Safe. I could watch Julianne Moore read the phone book, which she more or less does at times in this movie. She’s so moving in her performances.

Took my 8 year old to see Aquaman 2 today because he really wanted to see it. Just an absolute chore to get through. Here's a shortlist of reasons as to why:
-terrible acting
-"bro" jokes throughout
-every hero trope you can possibly imagine, executed poorly
-CGI everything, and not great CGI at times either
-neverending odd looking sea creatures with zero explanation
-magical baddie with absolutely zero explanation as to their existence
-actual baddie's reasons don't really make sense
-did I mention the truly horrific acting?
-characters land in peril for almost no reason, battle in the most tumultuous and hard to follow manner, and get out of peril easily and with almost no explanation
-babies in peril...come on
-good guys should be seriously hurt or dead, but never actually come close to it, so no actual peril is ever really experienced
-incredibly sanctimonous usage of climate change as a major plot point
-whales as weapons, and not in the way you would think
-did I mention the truly horrific and painful acting? It's worth another mention.
1/10, only because Randall Park was in it and did a tiny bit of good stuff (he was also seriously misused).
Oh my god, please never ever make another one of these movies.

I will admit...this weaponization of Whales intrigues me.
Like...do they head-butt stuff? Do they carry rocket launchers on their backs? Do they swallow bombs and then swim into enemy territory and explode?
Screw whales. What have they ever done for us anyways?

No, no, no...those would all have been cool and noteworthy, and would have added a point to my review overall. But as I established, good stuff was simply not allowed in this movie. What they actually did would make you die inside and LOL as well.

I watched a forgotten film noir from the 40s I, Jane Doe. The story is about a woman who has a forged passport who shoots and kills a married soldier who recently got home from the war. She offers up no defense as to why she did it, won't give a name (hence why she is called Jane Doe) and wants to be found guilty and sent to the chair. Through the trial there are many twists and turns in regards to the story that keep you guessing up until the end. Film noir is a genre I'm slowly getting into, and while I haven't seen a lot, this one was very entertaining and packs alot into its only 85 minute runtime.
What's interesting about this title, is that it was largely forgotten Republic picture, until Martin Scorsese presented it at the MOMA a couple of years back.
I really enjoyed Maestro. Going into the movie I knew almost nothing about Leonard Bernstein which I feel made me enjoy the movie even more. Cooper is an incredibly talented man, he did an amazing job. I also enjoyed how the movie was filmed. It definitely has Oscar bait energy but the lack of expositional dialogue, the creative scenes, and stylistic elements made it feel more original.
I excluded Christmas Vacation because it’s good. But the rest of these? I feel personally attacked.
Indiana Jones 1 & 3 are amazing, Fellowship and Towers are both far superior to ROTK, and Toy Story 1 blows 3 and its derivative overwrought melodrama out of the water.

Maestro is next on my list, actually most looking forward to seeing Sarah Silverman.
Hit Poor Things again, just as enjoyable on the 2nd viewing. Picked up a few small things I missed first go around, incredible dialogue perfectly delivered.
So yeah, saw Aquaman tonight, and… it was a movie that doesn’t really evoke any emotion either way. Lots of flashing lights and loud noises I guess. Didn’t make me want to get up and leave, but sure wasn’t going to hang around for any credit Easter eggs. Still ranks above Birds of Prey, WW84, Black Adam and Shazam, but that’s a low bar. When it’s available on one of our services, it might get selected for background filler, but sure won’t be looking for it.

And, without spoilers, how would you classify the weaponization of the Whales?
CPF already 'spoiled' it for me, but I asked for that so its all good.
