Wonka manages to hit that sweet spot. The story is original, inventive, and smart, and only pays a little bit of fan service to the classic story that follows. Chalamet is charming and magical in the role, and he really makes you believe that magic is possible in the most disarming way. The plot in this film makes you understand how he ends up the way he is later on, but you also see his genius and genuine joy for life. The new songs are adequate enough, as is the dancing, but the production design throughout the film is beautiful and perfect. It feels like a real version of "London", and yet seems slightly off-kilter and fantastical. It adds a lot to the feel and vibe of the film, and is genuinely gorgeous. There is real and well timed comedy throughout, capturing just the right mix of silly and authenticity of the characters. It's never forced and will bring genuine smiles and joy to the viewer.
My only complaint is that the film drags a little in the 3rd act as the plot to wrap up the consequences for the baddies is a little long, but it's a small grievance. Still, this film manages to walk the tightrope and avoid the pitfalls of so many other prequels/follow up films. It could easily be a stand alone film without ever knowing about the original Willy Wonka film.
It's just a genuinely joyous and magical film. I strongly recommend it. 9/10.

Forth Installments that impressed me, based on where the franchises were and the they were trying to achieve at the time. I don't really follow the horror franchises so I can't comment on them, and the cartoon franchises blur together too much.
First Class, 4th main team X-men
End Game, 4th titled Avengers Movie
Jurassic World
MI Ghost Protocol
Vegas Vacation
*I thought the Potter series was pretty consistent, but the forth movie almost stands out as uniquely bad.
Batman forever is not good.
Phantom Menace was a disappointment
Indiana Jones 4 was written off by the franchise
Fast and Furious was a low point in the franchise, Although I would argue that past few movies have been worse that anything 2/3/4. they've jumped the shark.
Thunderball was an average Bond film.
All the Hobbit movies were worse than they should have been, and too long.
MCU - Thor wasn't that good.
Thor 4 wasn't good.
I guess Wonder Woman is the best movie in the franchise? but at that point in time I was still being disappointed by those movies, and the terrible ending it had.
Can't remember which one Rocky IV is
Transformers Age of Extinction that concept had gotten boring.

Sir....what?
Besides...#4 in a Franchise? Starts and Ends with 'Star Trek: The Voyage Home.'
Everything else is second fiddle at best.

Hey now! They're just regular whales! They just have to go into space to travel through time to communicate with a space sausage....look lets not get bogged down in 'what needs to talk to space sausages and when' and whatnot!

Finally watched Gran Turismo, and really liked it. Now to convince my wife it’s not a “video game” movie like Ready Player One so she’ll watch it with me.

Read the title of the thread! Do you recommend it or not!!!???
I'm actually genuinely curious about it. It seemed like a film that could be an uneasy watch, but I don't want to bother without a good reason to check it out.

Ya, I’d recommend it for sure. It was a complete unknown to us, which definitely contributed to how much it took us aback.

Shiva Baby is a great comedy/drama about a college kid who is a sugar babe going to a Shiva with her family and runs into her sugar daddy and her ex there. It's both hilarious at times and anxiety inducing (think Mother! ) at other times. It's a short 75 minute film that I had a blast with, highly recommend it.
